I had often read the term "Late" used to desctibe a person, but it never said why they were late. It always puzzled me but I dare not ask as the times in my youth that I had asked I was told not to speak as it was deemed as "Inappropiate".
It was only in recent years that I found out that it is a term used to describe people who have died. I always had assumed they had been late and somehow died because they were late for something. I did not connect the two in my mind!

What about you? Any terms you were confused about.


Oh. I know what the symbol for hashtag is now, but I do not know why people say it? They never used to say it up until about 8 years ago? Why the sudden urge to say "Hashtag"? Does it do anything to the sentence or mean anything specific?

Ammended. It has something to do with Twitter.
I did try Twitter about ten years ago but deleted my account as people kept following me.
I dis not know how to use it or what it was for, much to the amuseament of all tese people who were following me. When I was annoyed at all the following people seemed to think it was funny? Uhmmm.

Years ago I also had to look up what exactly a hashtag is. or I knew what they were, but didnt know what they did.

I thought they were like a link that you click on to take you to some other place on the Net. But no. Hashtags only serve to accent a word, or phrase, that the person wants to stress. They dont actually "do" anything in cyberspace. Apparently. Or maybe I still have it wrong.

I don't know. It has something to do with algorithm?

Countless everyday terms in my native language.

And then there's occassional fast evolving swardspeak. In which many NTs here are sometimes eluded by it.

What is up? Many of times I was deeply confused on why they couldn't look up to answer their own question. I used to take that literally till a person took me aside to explain it.

The term junket as some fancy get-away paid for by a big company to an executive, or paid for by the government to some diplomat. It's supposed to be about business, but the recipient lives it up at the expense of a big institution.

I was well aware of the IDEA, but never knew it actually had a word to describe it until a few years ago.
