Autism Spectrum Disorder Support Services in your area?
Hello
In the area that I live, the social services have set up ASD support services in my area.
The support group consists of a diagnostic service and a once a week social drop in service which occurs
most the year round every Tuesday afternoon between 2 pm and 4 pm
This drop in service is aimed towards anyone with ASD, and is open to anyone with the condition living in the area, whether living in supported housing or independent living.
Are there any support services in your area and if so, what type of services do they offer?

there are limited services for children in the USA but nothing in real life for adults here, where i live . Which is very disconcerting . There are NT based organisations . That are running the bigger organisations for children,
which actually seem to be geared towards the parents of Aspies .
Have not attempted to exhaust all options in my search for support here
in this part of the country . The old school values undermine support for more Adult children , Which is to hide any thing in the family that may appear to be mental illness . This has been the method of dealing with issues of this nature . Since the 1950s and previous .
And please do not misconstrue my words to be claiming that autism , is even remotely a mental illness but a mentality difference .
And i am venting my discouragement of having to have grown up in a time
where difficulties with autism in children , where hidden .

Loves velcro,
Somewhere I have a list of what they do do and do not do in my area. They have been a real blessing to me, and they do not know if I am on the spectrum or not yet as I am on their list waiting to be assessed.
I would have to look up what they do as it is quite a lot. They do those open days (Before covid came in) once a month in each area. They cover a large area stretching across three counties so it is a miracle they can do soo much!
I do not entirely know who does what because it is relatively new to me. They have sent me information when I needed it and helped in arranging a letter so if I get stopped for not wearing a facemask I can show I am exempt. (I can manage a face shield as long as it does not mist up as I panic if I start to feel claustrophobic.... Hence why I have no hope wearing a facemask!)
They are also arranging for a letter to be made because if I get caught out in a shutdown, I need a way for other people to know what to do because it looks like I have fainted or I am drunk (Depends how deep the shutdown stage has become). I did try to do this myself but I go into too much detail! The only problem is I need to remember to carry it in my hand if I feel myself slipping into a partial shutdown, as if I get a full shutdown I am unable to do anything! A nightmare situation foe me is to have a full shutdown next to a shutdown trigger as it would be like superman next to some kryptonite!
But anyway... The autism team in my area have been really good and such a blessing to me. The only downside is though they have been working hard to assess people to bring down the waiting list, it is still a long list. Some other areas of the country which have a high population ratio like London have very short lists in comparisson as they have higher funding because of the higher population concentration so can employ more staff to work for them.
A couple of years ago our Welsh Assembly recognised this and has ploughed in more money into our system, but there has been a lot of catching up to do and our areas autism team has been working hard to reduce the list and they have already made a great deal of progress in this regard.
