Do you feel like a prisoner in your mind?
Hey all,
Been a minute since posting a question.
Wondering if you have ever felt like a prisoner in your own mind and wondered if maybe it's cause you really struggling with communicating your needs or feelings to others and this may be the issue and or how you went about weather communicating this with others was problematic? How it makes you feel and stuff.?? I seem to end up always using the most long-winded explanation but seem to realise after the fact.. Thanks all.
Dani.

Only very occasionally, though it's not a lack of speech or ways of communicating but a lack of language to express how much raw emotion I am feeling. That's why I am verbose when I get emotional.

Yes? No?
When it comes to being unable to express to others my wants/needs/feelings, I suck at it. In part because I generally have no idea what my wants/needs/feelings might be. When I actually do know what they are, I find it beyond difficult to express these things to other people. Being open and honest with people makes me uncomfortable when it comes to things that are personal to me. Sometimes I decide I should open up. Then I often don't follow through (I totally chicken out a lot). Other times I try to speak up and trip over my words, say a lot without saying anything at all, think I make sense but apparently I don't... I'm not a great communicator in general, but I'm even worse when I'm stressed, and opening up is stressful to me, so yeah.
I don't know that it makes me feel like a prisoner in my mind, but it can certainly be problematic for me and my relationships/interactions with other people.
Not just in mind, not really.
More like I feel like a prisoner for being a human being and the idea of -- it's not limited to the mind.
There's also conscience and dilemmas vs countless conditioned thoughts, emotions and reactions vs my intent that I've been fighting for as long as I could remember...
The limits of the physical body.
It's chemicals, too, for who knows how long since puberty.
The distorted senses -- for some reason I ended up having auditory processing issues.
My thoughts against my cognition and command over words; it always feels limiting to me.
I don't need high levels of alexithymia to struggle with expressing emotions.
The lack of knowing and discerning. The damn fog in my head. The inconsistencies.
My cognition, for some reason, was getting worse in an inconsistent manner -- my memory and attention span more so sometimes. It's always been since puberty.
And autism itself is not progressive.

FleaOfTheChill's reply pretty much sums up my experience too
