Is having a lack of common sense related to Aspergers?

They say that but I don't think it's true. I know plenty of NTs that don't have common sense. I work with 2 of them.

Executive function is affected by ASD. Executive function (rather than common sense, which is not a very meaningful term) is the ability to organize your life and carry out tasks. How that affects an individual and to the degree it affects an individual depends on the individual. But it is common for those with ASD to have problems with executive function.

I defs lack it.. For example.. I do everything for others and myself with the best intentions without thinking through the consequences.. I personally compare it to when I read something, instructions for example thinking I know what to do but soon realise I don't.. common sense seems to come easy to people.. I'm an envious bastard! :? :x

I lack common sense in the way I interact with people.
Like causing trouble at work or being seen as stupid due to saying inappropriate things.
It's basically not knowing when to hold my tongue, or assuming a joke told amongst colleagues is OK to say on front of the boss, that sort of thing.
Not sure if that's what you mean by common sense, though.

What is common sense anyway, and what is so common about it?

Mrs Peel expresses the “common,” vernacular definition of “common sense” very well.

I understand that this is sometimes used as a clue to help diagnose autism.
If a person lacks insight or common understanding of common situations, outcomes, interactions, sayings or word usages etc, then that is sometimes called lack of common sense.

Another way I could be said to lack common sense is when someone asks me to do something I haven't done before, I will want detailed instructions so I can understand exactly what I need to do. But often people seem to think it should be obvious and instead of telling me exactly what to do they will say "use your common sense!" But apparently I'm lacking either common sense - or the ability to imagine myself doing something that I've never done before and don't know how to do...

Yeah, looking at the other posts, maybe it's something to do with not being able to forecast outcomes? Is it the "lack of imagination" thing?

Common sense (which may have been more common in the past) might better be seen as wisdom.

If one considers wisdom and intelligence as to completely different characteristics, one can see four combinations.

little wisdom, little intelligence = many criminals
high wisdom, little intelligence = common sense
little wisdom, high intelligence = many college professors
high wisdom, high intelligence = Let me know when you find one

Asperger people are often said to have little common sense because they can do or say things that seem out of step with what would be more socially expected. However, this is not so much a function of "sense' as it is of focus. A more sharp focus by definition excludes other concerns. This exclusion is more an "absent-mindedness" syndrome. However, most Asperger people improve in their peripheral focus as they age so that they are less likely to miss things that they did when they were younger.

If so, then the ratio would be more like 44 out of 45 people having an ASD instead of the "official" ratio of 1 out of 45.

I used to be high wisdom, high intelligence. (Really!) But my intelligence seems to have decreased with age, and my wisdom took a sharp dive last week when extraction of a wisdom tooth decreased my wisdom by 25 percent!

My first wisdom tooth is only emerging - but I saw it on my NMR scans, they all do exist!

I don't think Aspies lack common sense but I don't think all NTs have common sense either. Common sense is logic, isn't it?

I don't even understand what common sense is supposed to be anymore, since no one can define it to me.

I do have the issue where I can't figure out certain tasks without being visually shown it and also taken through the steps of it. People tell me to use my "common sense" and then yell at me when I do things "wrong". :x I don't get what the hell I'm supposed to do.
