Can Aspergers make people worse or better in life?

It depends on the person.

Even people with Asperger’s can make themselves better.

I think that I wouldn't be as nice as a person as I am, if I wasn't autistic. I might not have traditional success, but I'm a Sweet Pea. It's the fact that I've been hurt many times that made me the Sweet Pea that I am, today. I know not to hurt people the same way that others have hurt me.

The answer is complicated, as there are too many factors in life that can be in play at the same time. Each piece of the puzzle plays a part. It can be useful in some ways, yet detrimental in others. For example, I have succeeded with most of my goals on education thanks to my advanced skills (likely due to AS). I have the ability to absorb very large amounts of information and condense it into mental visualizations that make more sense, at least for me. However, there are many things that I am looked down upon as a failure when compared to my NT peers. What they see as easy can be nearly impossible for me to do.

Life is much like a balance beam. You have to see where it is weighted on each side for the +/- ratio.

It seems that it would depend upon the individual.
