Do you ever find that the people in your life are not accepting of your special interests and either keep trying to mess with them (spoil them) or try to take them off you completely (ie condemn you for having them in the first place?)

Do you personally feel that you need them and do you find it difficult to find people whom understand?

Back when I was a schoolboy my sole interest was computers, and my parents frequently took it away or sabotaged it. Of course, I went to college later and studied related fields and now have gainful employment in technology, but back then it was an interest that my family tried to moderate.

I've been fascinated with the original Routemaster and other classic street vehicles from the age of 5. I have 50 Corgi Routemasters and two cubed boxes full of Hot Wheels and Matchbox vehicles to this day.

My interests have mostly been "normal", so very rarely.
I have also had the fortune to be able to find work in the fields of my interests.
I had a colleague who bullied me, and didn't accept that my job was a real job, but he's retired now.

I'm glad you made this.

My interests are railroad crossings (see more on that here viewtopic.php?t=391426)

My interest in that was generally respected as was my interest in trains and transmission towers and electric poles and whatever my favorite fictional character was at the time, but people, including my stepfather, thought I was too involved with them and wanted me in other things. I didn't want to be but I had to. I even felt like my interests were wrong, even tried to force myself to give some of them up but I was told something like they weren't bad in themselves but I couldn't spend too much time on those things.

Some people really did hate my interests! I was even made fun of just for liking the Spice Girls, which I still do but not as much as in middle school!
