Have you been accused of being a narcissist because people don't understand your autism?

Many times.
Low social capacity gets confused for selfishness - especially by... self-absorbed people

I guess so.
But I see it more in terms of people using the "Egocentric" or "Arrogant" words.

Total nonsense.
I care about people.
I just like acting the fool, strutting around like an intellectual peacock, but that confuses some people. 8O

Not to my face. I'm probably not confident enough in myself to come across as a narcissist. I get misunderstood in other ways. eg that I'm overly serious and have no sense of humor

There was an Australian guy who had a Youtube video contrasting Aspergers and Narcissism. His observation was that when asked if they were Narcissistic, and Asperger person would consider the possibility whereas a Narcissist wouldn't.

What makes Asperger people appear to others as Narcissistic is the intensity of focus that often excludes attention to peripheral activities like them. Often what makes interaction with NTs so taxing is the shifting of a focused intensity in multiple areas so that an NT interaction can be approximated (masking).

There was a scene in the first Sherlock Holmes movie (with Robert Downey) where he was waiting in a restaurant for Watson to show up. His nervous perception of all the various activities around him I thought was a fair representation of the difficulty in applying a focused attention in a diverse environment.

Only by a psychology student I was dating at the time; but never by a professional who had earned a degree.

Yes, but only by people who were narcissists. So either "it takes a one to know a one" or they were just trying to manipulate me.

Or measuring with their own measure and interpreting behaviors by their own motives?

I'm not sure I follow ... they certainly didn't think they were narcissists. (One of the textbook symptoms of a narcissist, of course.... but I don't think I am, either.)

Either narcissist or self hating.

I'm just super honest about where my skills lie.

I'll be honest if I'm s**t at something and honest if I'm amazing at something and that's the kind of language I use about both.

Most people just claim to be mediocre at everything but that is not the case for me and I don't feel comfortable having to lie about that.

People esp think I'm self hating when I say I'm bad with people for some reason?

No. I have a friend who is dealing with a narcissist, and I don't see any similarity.

Narcissism is a word which is used very loosely these days.

An example:
When I needed time alone and left a gathering, a narcissist claimed I did it intentionally to send him a veiled message of my contempt - because if he left a gathering like that, his reason would be a sense of superiority and contempt for the company.

I do feel like the main character tbh.

I think it's cos I read a lot of novels.

And I've never woken up for an episode in someone else's body like Freaky Friday.

Even if I did, it would still be the same brain character.

Would be cool if we could all get insight into other people's brains & explore them so we really understand we're not the only person who's not NPC or limited.

As it is, solipsism is pretty easy.
