Finding a therapist?
Hey whats up?
Ok, I'm 27 living in small town Indiana. I seem to be having a lot of trouble finding a decent CBT therapist. My doctor is in Indy and doesn't have any suggestions outside of Indy. All the ones I have found even remotely close specialize in abuse, drug addiction or something unrelated to what I'm looking for. Am I not asking the right questions? Am I not asking the right people? How can I at least find a list of qualified professionals that I don't have to book a flight to see? I've been hunting for the right kind of help for 8 years. I'm gettin tired.
Please pipe up if you know something,
Nick

You can try the above link(hope it works, I am computer moron)or just google auitsm support site Indiana and see what comes up.I found the name of my AS therpist from my loval autism support group. If you dont see a listing for someone in your area, you can try the web site of your area and let people know where you live and they may have someone that lives closer to you.Unfortuantely, there are few people with "specialize" in AS and related issues and it can take awhile to get an appointment.Best of luck,I strongly recommend that you go to some one who works and knows about AS.I find therepy from Nt minded are almost worthles and sometimes harmful for people with AS.

I agree. I've been to a few therapists in the past, but gave up. Their knowledge of AS didn't go beyond their textbook's. I didn't want to pay a therapist to tell me what I could read up on my own.

I agree that unless a therapist has a good understanding of AS, they can do more harm than good. They have to be prepared to start where the patient is rather than expecting them to get better really quickly but I found not too many are willing to do this.
