Today during my driving lesson (driving being something I hate doing, and wished I lived in the city so I could walk or bike places), I was doing quite well. Then, I was instructed to turn into a housing development, and we were passing through streets that were quite narrow, with cars parked on both sides. It was quite a challenge for me to get between the cars with sufficient clearence, and I thought I was doing ok. then the instructtor hissed (I swear she did) and jerked the wheel to the left.

ME: What was that??? I had room on both sides!! !
INSTRUCTOR: No you didnt!! ! you were about 2 or 3 inches from grazing the mirror off!! ! and you had about 2 feet on the other side, there was no reason for that!! !
ME: WHat!! ! I looked!! ! I had enough room!!
INSTURCTOR: blah blah blah Poor depth perception!! !

So apparently I have poor depth perception, which only affects me at close ranges. And I never noticed befor. Isnt this just great. What the crap!! !! Ill have to get this checked out. If this is so, can it be corrected by like polarized lenses or something?

I didn't know if you could have poor depth perception. I thought you either have it or you don't.
I have none whatsoever, and see everything in two dimensions. (Completely flat.)
If there is a way to see in 3D, I'd like to know!
I've been told my eyes won't work to focus together at all
Don't worry, though, you can still get your licence, I've had mine for almost ten years.
I've lost a few mirrors along the way, but hey, at least they weren't people I hit.

Just because a driving instructor says you have poor depth perception doesn't mean it is true. That requires a more advanced method of diagnosing than what the average driving instructor is capable of (if the instructor were capable of it then she would not be a driving instructor).

It is actually possible that you were correct and you did have enough clearance. It makes me wonder why the instructor wasn't doing her job well enough to warn you in advance that you might not have enough room. She could have caused an accident by jerking the wheel. Remember the old saying: "those who can't (do it)... teach."

I don't see in 3D unless I wear my blue glasses (then I sort of see in 3D - it is a lot closer) . . .

I do hate to drive because of it BUT I can - I just do things like pull through parking spaces so that I don't have to back out, never even try to parallell park (how I passed that one on the driving test I will NEVER know), and also don't drive at rush hour if it can possibly be avoided . . .

It sucks, I'm the same way too. My mom took me to an empty parking lot once. I could park the car, but my mom said I would've hit all the other cars around me if their were any. I really don't like driving, their should be an auto-pilot.
