When I’m hanging out with my friends and they say anything remotely bad about me I jokingly say” your saying that cause I’m autistic” I of course don’t care if someone says something bad about me but my question is is this wrong for me to say?

I was diagnosed in Jan with autism spectrum disorder and my whole family thought I’d take it badly but I didn’t I made it until i was 15 nearly 16 without anyone knowing I was autistic so I see it only as a good thing in fact in that first week after I got diagnosed I already started joking about how my friends are saying that because im autistic it’s really funny because they all don’t think im taking it the wrong way?

I know you there’s a lot of people on here who have had a really hard time with it i I’ve always been different then all of my friends I never really knew why I was different until I was diagnosed

I decided like the day I got diagnosed that I wasn’t gonna take being autistic in a bad way. my parents always taught me that you decide how you feel about things so I decided that I was laugh about it and now I get all they benefits of being autistic which is nice anyway I’m really curious about how everyone on here sees how I’m taking it

It's not a bad thing at all. You're making it easy for your friends to see that you have a sense of humour about your situation.

I think probably a lot of people do this. I know I do.

Welcome to wrong planet

As long as your friends understand you are joking it is good for the reasons babybird said.

As long as you don't overdo it. It may come off as an excuse for being rude otherwise.
That kind of joking may take a bit of fingertop feeling that some of us just don't have, I know I have faulted in this area in the past.
If you know them well enough and can read the signals they send out you should be fine.

Absolutely not!

IMO, you are proving to your friends that you are just as human like them.

BTW, welcome to Wrong Planet! :)

It is better to have people laugh with than at you. So if everyone's sense of humor is good with it then I think it's fine.

Obviously you'll need to be more careful talking to people who don't know you.

Oh...Welcome to WP!

Very true!
Stereotyping of people on the spectrum has become more common that IMO,
you should not let your guard down.

You're not "below" any other person because you're diagnosed with autism.

Being autism is not something to be ashamed of.

It's good to be able to joke about it.

Do you have something that you're REALLY interested in?
