GoodLuck, MrMacPhisto.

I hope you succeed. May the force be with you. :)

I guess you're a big U2 fan eh? The "McPhisto" and the "Fly" personas of Bono had a real strong stage presence.

I never heard of AS until a couple of years ago. Up til then I was just a little unusual.

I don't believe you can just "get over" it. But good luck.

You might not be able to "get over" AS in total, as I believe that it is an integral part of who you are, but I certainly see no reason why you can't improve in those areas you have problems in. Eye contact, social interaction... practice makes, if not perfect, then at least improvement. I've been working to get better at the things I have trouble with, and I wish you luck in your efforts to do the same.

Never give up! :D

I wouldn't mind getting over my fixation on it....after all, I might not even have it. My symptoms could be caused by something else, and/or I might not even have enough symptoms.
I just happen to relate to this board better than I do to the ADD forums.

I was officially diagnosed when I was very young. I tried very hard to get over things last year with complete success but I had a break up earlier this year which did cause a set back.

maybe what you want is for there not to be any co morbids with the aspergers. im sure aspergers by itself isnt that much of a problem but when you have depression, anxiety or any ocd it makes it ALOT worse.

You won't be able to "just get over it". These things that NT people take for granted we have to think about (think hard about) using other parts of our brain which become very stressful. Do you have to really try hard to see? Do you have to try hard to know you are walking? Well these things like communicating, having small talk with people, not doing things repetitively is like walking or seeing for NT people. So the whole point of you "trying" not to be an aspie is going to be fruitless for you.

I would think getting over AS would be like getting over being a certain skin color, you could try to dress it up any way you want, but your still the same thing underneath.

Maybe you mean learning to imitate NTs?

i have to agree with centralflm, i dont know what you mean by overcome, but aspergers is not a cold. If you mean "overcome" in the sense that it will no longer hold you back to achieving your goals thats great, otherwise, you are going to hit a wall. but whatever it is that you're trying to do, gl.

I actually think I sort of understand what he means. I've had similar ideas myself. For instance, sometimes I say to myself, "I'll just be relaxed, and I won't have anxiety anymore." Yeah, right. Or, "It seems like if I could just try harder, that I could somehow develop a normal sense of direction and have a normal visual memory." Once again, yeah right. But sometimes it feels like you could just "get over" things, if you try hard enough. Unfortunately though, it's been my experience that it doesn't work too well. But still, good luck to you, MrMacPhisto.

The truth is I have never been happy with what I've got.

I just wish it was gone it has got me into trouble a few times and I am fed up of that now and what I am trying to say when it comes to that 'enough is enough now' 'no more please'

I also blame alot of people for the way I am.
