Anybody receive state government services - serving clientele with developmental disabilities?

How many feels that these services becoming increasingly receptive to understanding clientele with least restrictions to independence - such as (HFA) High Functioning Autism?

Fed

Kings and Queens and their Merry Men throwing me a penny now and again to feel good about themselves. Which is nice of them, I suppose, and I don't want any more, because even if I hate government, I still feel like a burden there, and it falls on the taxpayers after all. Disability pension.

Mildish Autism, but my independence is a mixed bag due to deficits. Driving being an issue. Handling groups of people another. Independent when just me outside of society, inside of society, not as much as I'd like.

Exactly. :|

For services, the Federal government grants me a disability pension because me no function well and have difficulty supporting myself when it comes to employment (State tried to give me a job working for them but me no function well around groups of people). I don't like it, but that's life.

This thread focues on experiences with state govt. services.

I began a WP discussion thread (in this WP Forum), on my expereinces with the California Regional Center services. Again, any state's experiences applies to this disc. thread.

Personally, my experiences with the CA services seems promising.

UPDATE: Recently, our state's agency serving clientele with developmental disabilites sent out survey asking clients to write out concerns, agendas the agency needs to address to better serve clientele. My concern was for the agency to better respond to clienete who have least restrictions to independence - the same concerns I've psoted here on WP.

In the last few weeks of meeting with Independent Living Service (ILS) coordinators, some small progress has been made, yet still touch & go. I'm still periodically educating the coordinators. Many ILS people look at financial related issues.

I'm considering joining a local credit union that offers financial coach services free to members. Again, I feel I'm educating my ILS coordinators on the credit union option. I'm now left to seek the support of a trusted family member, or family friend to further investigate the credit union option.

Life's concerns might interfere with discusison of important concerns here on Wrong Planet. Would posting a brief Private Message (PM) regarding services appropriate for clienete who have least restrictions to independence be an option?
