I saw that story on Yahoo news. It didn't say what was wrong with the kid but I kind of had a feeling he was autistic.

Personally, I am not suprised. I am not a sports person at all but the way I have seen some coaches act tords the players, it does not suprise me at all.

That sounds about right, personal ambition, venality, spite and an utter disregard for somebody far weaker than yourself are part of what gives the 'alpha male' his uncontestated status as an 'uber-contender' in Competitive Life.

Perhaps it was the lack of subtlety and artlessness of the assault that led to its detection.

Don't dwell on it. This sort of thing happens all the time, alot more than what is documented or aired on the news.

There's parents around here teaching kids how to do "knee on knee" collisions in hockey. It is known as one of the dirtiest plays in hockey and it is so subtle that it can easily be argued as being a 'mistake' if someone gets caught doing it. I'm talking about 6-7 year olds here, carrying out their parent's orders to put other kids out of commision. It's pretty sad how the whole sport scene is now. Most kids don't simply play to play, they are forced to play to win by their parents, by any means possible.

At least this guy was caught; G-d knows how many times every day similar things happen where the perps are not caught.

Hopefully more and more of these perps will get caught in the act, and that this will send a message to those who try to hold people on the spectrum back.

*shakes head in disgust*

Like absolute zero said, this sort of thing happens all the time. It's a result of the coach's desire to win - not for the kids, but for himself. Happens a lot in junior sports, I've noticed. I've been left out of games for this reason myself.

I knew that kid's coaches took it too seriously, but I didn't know there were S.O.Bs like that out there.

What an arse. If I was that poor kid's dad, I know where I'd be inclined to stick the bat.

Then we'd be in the paper jman...although I do believe that the local AutismLink folks are planning on taking a group to the guy's hearing.

are you involved with autismlink? Cause I kind of want to get involved in the autism like in advocacy or something.

no, I'm not personally involved in autismlink...although being in the mental health field I have contact with a lot of people who are...most are parents with young children. They do a good job in advocating for autism related services in western PA..however, they do take a view of the spectrum that is rather more pathological than my own. If you would like check them out at http://www.autismlink.com
