Related to a discussion in another thread.

I feel that not being autistic would make me an entirely different person, so I would rather not change in that aspect.

Only if I hate the world enough to either join their dysfunctional shite they call a system, or to have the means to terrorize those who are in it.

Only if I'm consumed with vengeance, bitterness
and envy, riddled with crippling mental illness.
Only if I perceive myself as a victim and perpetually be a victim.

I'd definitely be a different person -- better functioning human, but likely not a better person.
I know, the darkness I have as a human would likely be carried over such opportunity and translated into something more actively malicious than apathetic for just having the means.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - if it wasn't reversible I wouldn't, because I'm fairly happy as I am and it might make me feel worse, but if it was reversible then I would, because it might make me feel better. I don't see how anybody could know what becoming NT would feel like, though I see how a ND person who was unhappy and strongly felt that their plight was down to their disability might want to bet on making the permanent jump, and I can see how one who was happy would be much more wary. It would be a gamble, like "burning" your cards, but then cards is only a game with limited stakes, while becoming permanently NT would be gambling your future.

Anyway I can't answer the poll question accurately because it's not specified whether the change would be reversible or not. I think the poll results will be some kind of a measure of our pain.

If other people did it before me, I probably would. I’m completely unsuccessful at the moment. I pretty much have no life or accomplishments to be proud of. Unless you include inspiration porn type stuff.

Anyone thinking ASD can be cured or otherwise removed shows a fundamental lack of understanding of the condition. You may as well wish yourself out of existence...it would amount to the same thing.

Sure, but this is hypothetical only.

I guess I might if I start feeling extra suicidal.

I'm the opposite, I'm travelling this life as an NT but I suspect if I get an formal diagnosis I might actually be Level 1 Autistic

But I kinda don't want to be a "Rachel Dolezal" of the autistic community

Well, there are some features of my brain that I wish I could get rid of, but there are also some pretty cool features I wouldn't want to lose. Tourette's is a different story. I'd get rid of that crap today if I could.

I'm not sure how I could be neurotypical, given how much of me is defined by autism, even prior to being diagnosed.

That said, if I could take a pill and wake up with average executive function, less monotropy, average ability to form attachments, etc I'd do it.

I don't care about being NT, but reducing the impairments that make me disabled would be great.

I was diagnosed before there were different levels, probably would be level 2 if I were re-assessed today.

I would. Yes, my autism affects just about everything about me and every aspect of my life. Yes, I would be a completely different person without it. But I don't like the person I am, and I'd give a heck of a lot to be able to function in society. I don't really get anything beneficial from my autism, but plenty of limitations I want to be rid of.

Why should I/we change? Why not make all the NT's a bit autistic instead? :P
