Even a slight amount of noise makes me uncomfortable and distressed

I cant easily sleep if i hear something.

Especially human voices, noise that other people make, these things drive me crazy.

Is there any way to be more insensitive and focus on my own stuff

Sensory issues are more to be accommodated than cured.... mostly because there isn't a cure. But there are things you can do to make them easier to deal with. A lack of sleep and being stressed, etc, can make sensory issues worse. So take care of your health. Also make use of tools like noise cancelling headphones or Loop earplugs, or playing music on headphones to drown out smaller, annoying noises.

enhanced brown noise is very effective at blocking out noises internal and external to one's local environment.

Noise-canceling headphones usually work, especially I actually try earmuffs

I find that having my favourite music playing on low when I'm sleeping helps to cancel out the outside noise.

Yep. I love my jams playlist. It's high energy music, yeah, but it's great for stimming until I fall asleep.

I don't know where I'd be without the "Rain & Thunder" sound recording I downloaded off YouTube and put onto an mp3 player.

yes, ear plugs, ear phones, playing low music that I can choose for myself as background noise, using a sound machine, sometimes physically removing myself from over stimulating sounds... there are "work arounds" out there, you might have to try several things to find what works best for you.

Brown noise is good, I also like pink noise. I carry ear plugs with me basically everywhere. I got a set from eargasm last year and they came with a nice little container that I keep in my watch pocket. (I've also had good luck with the no-noise ones) They're great in that they block most of the extraneous noise, but do allow enough of the noise coming from people speaking that I don't usually need to remove them to interact.

I've got noise canceling headphones for at home, and I'm considering getting some ear muff style hearing protection for when I really don't want to be disturbed.

in my travels i also encountered a star trek noise website that has the background noises from various star trek ships, that i find very relaxing/calming.
