Hi Everybody!

My name is Melissa and I am a doctoral student in Psychology in the Los Angeles area. I have worked with the Asperger's/autistic populations for 5+ years and care very much about related issues. I am currently doing a research study for my doctoral dissertation that may prove essential for those with Asperger's/HFA to be found credible if involved in any legal arena.

Interested participants would be asked to give 15-20 minutes of time performing a short series of pretty fun tasks that involve looking at faces to determine if they are familiar, and watching 3 video clips less than a minute long and identifying from a photo lineup.

I really appreciate all the help I can get making this a valid study (the more people, the better!) and am willing to travel throughout California and Arizona to meet with you! Please let me know if you are willing to participate or if you have any questions!

Thanks so much!
~Melissa~

Do you need an official diagnosis? Our 9 y/o daughter has an official diagnosis, but hubby and myself do not, althought we're 99% sure we both are too.

We're near Sacramento BTW.

feel free to contact me at the following e-mail address: elohero@hotmail.com

AlmostDr…. Forgive my asking but you don’t write in the shibboleths of a terminal degree candidate. Do you have any bona fides or endorsements from your department at whatever uni with which you are affiliated?

I was born and raised in L.A. but I'm in Las Vegas now, so if you're willing to make the trip: here I am. Hey, if you're willing to go to Arizona, why not Vegas? CA stateline is about 25 miles from here and the AZ state line is about the same. I'm also a PhD student, and I'm just about to start my first comp exam this October! (Crap.) I'm 'down the hall' from ya, in sociology (the dark side).

Doesn't look like you're troll. I found you here:

Sorry to be suspicious but if you've "worked...Asperger's/autistic populations for 5+ years and care very much about related issues" it seems you would have joined this board long ago.

Hi Wildman,

Not sure if I'm replying correctly, but thanks for the idea! I can definately get to Vegas (I have family in Lake Havasu, just a jaunt from there), so if I can get a group out there I would love to come out and meet with you! I love the dark side (my undergrad is in sociology at SSU)! Are you involved with any local support networks of any kind where I might be able to interest others in joining you? E-mail me!

Hi Kit,

Thanks for checking my refs, I understand your suspicions in this world today and am glad not to have been determined to be a "troll". <laugh> I actually did join the board a couple years back and found my first Asperger's child to test IQ, however the e-mail address was old and had to update for this project--after school is over hopefully I'll have more time to be on just to chat, but currently life keeps me school-focused, so here I am working on dissertation-the final step, hooray!

There's two other guys on here that live in Vegas. I don't know of any local support groups, but I haven't looked, aaaaaaand... I dunno how I'd find one! (Needless to say, that ain't quite my area of specialty. Not currently, at any rate.) If you can find one in the Vegas area, I'd be willing to act as a liason between you and them.

I will be administering a short questionnaire screener that is the only instrument currently available to diagnose adults with Asperger's. All of you who are "pretty sure" and undiagnosed can finally receive confirmation by participating in my study!

Wildman, let's see if we can get the others in Vegas on board then I'll come out and meet you all! (Does that mean you guys haven't met each other yet? It'll be fun!)
