I was just wondering what people's obsessions were, and how long they've had them. Personally, I'm obsessed with video games (I have been all my life.), and researching AS, which I've obsessed over for as long as I've known I had AS. What're your obsessions?

Cats-I have had cats, and other pets, all my life. They have been a big comfort to me. I am especially fond of tabbies and Siamese.

Roger Bannister is my favorite athlete. His accomplishments in all aspects of his life, from being the first to break four minutes for the mile to being a physician, inspire me. He overcame a lot of obstacles in his life to achieve great success.

The first one I remember being obsessed with hardcore is a brief LOTR exception, only a few weeks...then I got obsessed with the show The Nanny on a very deep level which lasted for years. I then moved on to That 70s Show for a few months, and now I'm really into the show House. TV shows are my primary obsession, although occasionally I do develop smaller ones. I used to fantasize about collecting things when I was little, like if I could just get all the sparkly crayons or rose jewelry my life would be perfect, etc. I have the desire to talk about House almost all the time, but I'm pretty good at curbing it most of the time because I know it's inappropriate. I spend hours online doing House related things, though.

Weed for a while now. It's properties, uses, political oppinions about it... And also Ron Paul for a couple of months now. Lifelong? The way people act in groups and the way they act indepedently. And existentialism since I was like 12. Most of my obsessions are very short-lived and too short to put here.

I'm obsessed with anime and videogame characters. I rarely focus on the series they come from, instead I just pick out favorite characters and learn all I can about them. For example, I have collected everything Hellsing and Trinity Blood related that's been released in English. However, I only watch or read certain parts that have my favorite characters in them. Also, I admit that the Phoenix Wright games are tedious, and the only reason I play them is because the characters are very interesting.

I've always had an obsession with video games and art. Recently, it's math and Latin. I hope to keep those ones though because they may become important.

My current obsession now would be factory farming. I don't like doing it...but I am obsessed with how cruel it is and really wanting to stop it. Watched lots of videos about it and wrote to companies complaining about how they treat the animals etc.
I also am obsessed with severe storms. I have lots of weather books at home and I research past severe storms.

Other obsessions I have had were...

-Jar lids
-Serial Killers
-Button collecting
-Outer Space

There are some more that I can't remember.

Some of my obsessions change every 6 months to a year... but a lifelong one is the history of the Byzantine Empire (and to some degree it's Roman predecessor). I am utterly fascinated with it and have been studying it since I was 4 or 5. Another lifelong obsession is computers in general and computer graphic design in particular. Fortunately I've made a career out of that.

Other recent obsessions:
Post-apocalyptic fiction novels
Dune (books and movies)
Completely remodeling my house, and teaching myself how to do it (I'm not hiring anyone to do the work)
The evolution of Indo-European languages

Most of my obsessions have been around politics, philosophy or quotes on the theme of loss and loss. I have a savant type memory for quotes on the theme of love and loss.

However, I got so obsessed with a girlfriend two years ago that, although I did not show it in any way, my whole life was spent obsessing about when I could kiss her again, it was hell. I don't miss her now though, that might be because I'm obsessing about this Latin woman I met last summer. Oh dear, what a hopeless case I am. Oh nearly forgot, i get obsessed about checking and r-checking my posts on this site prior to sending them.

The first two major obsessions I remember having (back in the 1960s) were the JFK assassination and helicopters.

Religion later became an obsession which, as is often the case with aspies, I turned into a career. (I am a sociologist of religion.)

Cheers,

Mark

I thought of something else. I have periodically become obsessed with certain television programs. In the 1960s, I was obsessed with Superman and Lost in Space. More recently, I have been obsessed with Babylon 5 and the reruns of What's My Line? (on GSN, a U.S. cable channel).

I would become extremely angry if I missed a show or forgot to record it.

Cheers,

Mark
