I'm watching "Music and Lyrics" right now - and the female lead is displaying some real Aspie tendencies!

Maybe I should show it to my mom so she can see more Aspies in "action". :)

I've watched that movie with Drew Barrymore and I see her more OCD than AS for sure.

My mom always points people in the direction of Mozart & the Whale when she wants people to see "aspies in action".

But I know I'll probably get a firestorm for saying that since I know how most people on this site are about that movie.

The main character in the movie "Shine"--pianist David Helfgott--is probably the most obvious "Aspie" in any movie that I know of, although his behavior was definitely exaggerated to make a better Hollywood movie! It is almost embarassing to watch him; and no one would want to identify with him. But, at the core, he is an "Aspie" (with an attitude--ha ha!).

Doctor Evil is definitely an aspie. In fact, I'm quiet sure all supervillain are...

I was watching Jack Nicholson's character in "Something's Gotta Give" this morning -- oh boy, talk about Asperger's characteristics! Big time! The character had some of the more seemingly "negative" characteristics -- need for routine, not understanding of other's viewpoints, seemingly low on the social graces scale -- but he also had the wonderful characteristics of seeing things outside of the box, being passionate about a person, really doing good for others even if his attempts came across as awkward. The Helen Hunt character is supposed to be the normal character, but even she had her trials of not feeling "normal". I'm sure that this movie was not made with attempt to portray an "Asperger's" character, but nonetheless, it did a good job at showing that everyone has their ow foibles, and we are ALL the better off for them when we are understanding of each other.

He wasn't really a villain, more like a misunderstood Aspie.

Of course, Helfgott actually has Schozoaffective Disorder, and isn't AS at all. For my money, Sylar on NBC's Heroes is either AS or HFA although they've never said so openly, and Hana Gitelman, who's primarily appeared in the online comics I believe is "officially" HFA.

I read an article in which Tony Attwood said that David Helfgott has Aspergers but was misdiagnosed(!?). The reason I remember this is because Helfgott does not seem AS to me (too affectionate). But Attwood is supposed to know a thing or two about AS.

My favorite film Aspie is Toby Radloff

Actually, the Heroes charachter Sylar is a true sociopath/psychopath. He's very manipulative, and has no moral qualms about killing people to achieve his end.

And here is where my confusion begins...too affectionate to be an ASPIE? Seems to me that this is a spectrum disorder and I read everywhere that no two are alike....then I see things like too affectionate, nope...can't be an ASPIE and I wonder if I missed the boat...hehe...

Really, my kiddo is the most affectionate person you could ever possibly meet...Actually, when we saw the geneticist here he said that there were too many kids with autism/asperger's that didn't seem to fit the definition ONLY because of them being affectionate...although every other symptom is for a kid with autism/asperger's...

Any ideas?

And oh yes! I loved that Somethings Gotta Give...I don't think there's a movie of his that I have not enjoyed his character...great actor...one of my favorites...it not my favorite.

But he wouldn't know charisma if it hit him in the face. His speech is stilted, halting, laboured, he rarely makes eye contact, and he's got an obsession with minute details of how objects work, first watches, then people with superpowers. He worked in a voluntarily isolated job. He just doesn't seem like a psychopath, his people skills are rubbish, even I could do better.
I guess it's possible he could also be a psychopath?

We watched "American Splendor" tonight and I felt like the main character Harvey Pekar that was played by Paul Giamatti was on the moderate end of the spectrum, and the character Toby Radloff that was played by Judah Friedlander, the "nerd", was on the serious (more complicated?) end of the spectrum.

I wish that Mozart & The Whale had portrayed someone on the mild end of the spectrum. It seemed to only portray the most seriously affected and the main male character seemed to be more affected by OCD than Asperger's. In my humble opinion.

He had a moral crisis towards the end of the last season over killing "innocent" people (instead of those with special powers). Doesn't that count?

I'm not convinced he has AS, but I'm not convinced he doesn't, either.

Hana Gitelman's AS diagnosis is indeed official, it was part of that Heroes 360 viral marketing campaign, you could access her medical file on the Primatech Paper website.
