I'm kind of curious if there are any other people out there who do this. When I get in a conversation I don't like, I just stick my headphones in and start playing music and just... ignore the world. I do this any chance I get really. Anyone else out there like that?

Not myself but had a deaf coworker that admitted she switched her hearing aid to bluetooth when in a conversation she didn't want to follow :D
I have been known to just zone out...

I have headphones on listening to music and/or a podcast almost all the time when I'm out in the world. I will take them off or turn off the music if I feel the desire or need to interact with other people, but will quickly and quietly turn the music back on if the interaction becomes too annoying.

I don't tend to do that mid-conversation, but when I'm out, I always have my Air Pods in. People may think it "rude", "cold", "distant" or whatever... I just don't think that small talk with strangers is appropriate at all, barring rare exceptions, so...

I think I fit the New England stereotype quite well. Where I used to live strangers were more small talky and always up in your business. I prefer it up here.
