SMELL (I can't smell)

By the way, is it a common trait not to be able to smell if you are an aspie. If someone farts in the room, I have no idea. I couldn't tell you what a strawberry or a flower smells like. I can't even smell myself, which can be a problem. Now I have heard that people with Aspergers are overly sensitive to the scences, but does anyone have this experience?

As far as I know, I have not heard of any link between AS and not being able to smell.

Neither have I. My nasal organ functions fine. I'm not a medical practitioner, but my guess would be that it has a totally different cause, perhaps a physical one.

Depends on the day of the week for me. Most days I cant smell anything but sometimes I can tell you just about every ingredient in something someone is cooking down the street with their window open.

Most aspies have BETTER smell, if anything, although it may be odd. Also, there IS hyposensitivity, but they can still generally smell.

Frankly, I am a bit hyper and odd. When my dog got skunked, I didn't mind it. I minded the tomato juice a lot more.

Frankly, you just sound like someone with an allergy to gluten, and some kind of chemical imbalance.

Wow, I can't even imagine what that must be like for you, since my nose is hypersensitive...just like all of my other senses. I sometimes wish that I was deaf because of my hypersensitive ears, but I'd hate to not be able to smell strawberries or flowers. I imagine that must really screw up your sense of taste as well.

I'm very sensitive to the weird smell you get when electronics stuff is about to go bad, but really REALLY bad when it comes to flowers and ladies perfume. Quite a few times the girlfriend has shoved a bottle under my nose and asked "what do you think of that" and either I can't smell it or it smells like toilet cleaner.

2ukenkerl, may be right about the gluten and smell. I will be able to tell shortly.

I am also very sensitive to smells.
And I can't stand people that have weird or ugly stench.

Some Aspies are blind, some are deaf, why should there be an exception to anosmia?

Exactly! Anosmia, like deafness and blindness can be brought on by things other than Autism.
Hypersensitivity is co-morbid, but the lack or loss of a sense can occur through some other illness
or accident.

My sense of smell comes and goes... sometimes, i can smell everything in minute detail... other times I can't smell a thing... I don't know why...

I also have never had a sense of smell. Also partially colour blind.
