Anybody else find themselves TAPPING tables /work surfaces?

Just that sometimes my wife has to stop me tappng the kitchen work surface because I will be stood there for about 10 / 15 seconds tapping away an a sort of daydream ...

I also tap for a few seconds if I can't think what I have gone to get out of a cupboard ...

Any comments /// POLITE ones ideally :)

Yeah, I start making complex beats that evolve and morph into incredible drum solos.

At least thats what I like to think

ya I do it quite a bit, i dont think it means anything im sure plenty of NTs do it too, I do it usually if im bored (have nothing to do with my hands) and will especally do something like that if im talking to someone. Nervousness causes me to do it alot also.

I used to tap my pencil against my desk when thinking during tests. However, I was informed that this was annoying, so I switched to tapping my foot agianst the floor instead.

Historically, I have HATED it when others have done this. Ironically though, I have lately caught MYSELF doing it! YIKES!

I often feel like a hypocrite because I hate it when people do repetitive things that annoy me, but I also find that I do them myself...sigh.

Sounds like stimming. Do you think it's the sound or the tactile sensation that you like?

I do it, and I do it for the feeling of it. Soft surfaces work just as well, the beat's always in your head anyway. :D

I do this as well. Constantly tapping when thinking about something, and it even gets to the point of tapping on my boyfriend sometimes.

My ex girlfriend used to love it, in small doses. She thought everything I did was cute, though

All the time, it's ok, because I'm also a musician (I hid it with my excuse that I was a drummer.) But I remember being a little kid, and touching things I passed. My uncle noticed it, and commented that it meant something. I have no idea what he thought it was, I should ask him sometime, but I think that was the beginning of my interest in psychology!

I think that's common among NTs as well. In fact, finger tapping was included in a video on YouTube about NT stims. I finger tap a lot, and so does my mom (NT).

I run my fingers along door frames and desk edges especially when talking to my boss which is stressful.
