There's a thread on the board right now about eccentric and odd behavior, lots of people including me have made a post there but there was one thing I noticed. There are lots of people with AS who don't have a cellphone. To a lot of people in the 21st century this is very strange, most of the NT's I know are welded to their cellphones and if it dies or gets lost or stolen they are heartbroken.

My explanation is a technical one. The long-term effects of microwave energy on the skull have not been researched so if it does cause damage after a number of years I will be able to turn round and say 'I told you so'. Note that I am NOT talking about cellphone towers, just the miniature transmitter that you hold close to your ear when making a call.

So, given that many of us (including me) seem to be in love with technology* why have we not joined the tribe of cellphone users?

Ed Almos

* Do a lot of geeks including me have AS or are people with AS naturally drawn towards geekdom. Who knows.

Because there main purpose is talking about stupid stuff like, "How was your day."

I have a tracfone. I only use it to speak with my bf and his dad, and in case I need an emergency phone while out, but thats it.
I would never spend $40-$70 a month just to speak with someone on the phone. For the talking I do its much cheaper to use the tracfone or a phone card.

Why would anyone want to carry around a device that would allow people miles away to annoy them at all place and all hours of the day?

I love my cellphone. Unfortunately, it stopped working last week, and I should be getting a new one hopefully tomorrow.

Being religious, I dont belive in the Illuminati lies of evolution, but I do belive in Natural Selection.

At this rate, all the NTs will gradually die off from brain cancer leaving the Aspies to inherit the Earth where there will be no more wars and everybody will be nice to animals and nature.

My husband and I both have cell phones but we don't have a home phone. He's the only person I talk to on the phone because I have always been terrified of using the phone. It comes in handy when I'm grocery shopping and he thinks of something that he wants me to buy.

I try not to think about the possible long-term effects of microwave energy on my skull. But that's one reason I held out for a long time before getting a cell phone. I finally broke down and got one when I met my husband because he worries about me when he's not with me.

I don't have one because of the radiation issue. It seems only logical to follow the precautionary principle on this one.

He figures knowing where you are is worth the risk of you getting a brain tumour?

I know a woman who thinks that way about her kid!

I dont see any difference between a mobile phone or the internet really. However, I know I can be as enslaved as I can be liberated by which ever form of technology I use.

I have developed a very overly developed sense of responsibility since having a mobile, and it can get a bit obsessive, however, it is a godsend for me being able to keep in touch with my little boy whenever he wants to chat. If I did not have this relationship i would not have a mobile I think.

I have a cell phone. I'm not a phone person but sometimes I like to talk to my friends, and its a backup internet source.

that was why I stopped having one , nowadays I do carry a cellphone but I have to for work. Its only used for me being called out and nothing social otherwise I'd hate it.

I get nervous even if the house phone rings , its the uncertainty of it all.

This is too easy:

Get a cellphone that does "push" email: you'll get urgent emails right away.

Many Aspies (me included) aren't enamored of the phone, and email is a perfectly acceptable way to respond these days.

Take a giant leap into the '90's!
