I was thinking about that the other day. I wondered if it would even be possible for me to get a gun license since a background check on me would reveal many autism related things about me. I even wonder if my autism is a matter of public record, since Social Security has DX'd it and DMV has records of it also.

Not that I would want a gun, but they could just check my number of hospital stays and that would rule me out. Fortunately, it rules me out for the Armed Services as well, so in case the draft is ever reinstated in the US I'm on easy street.

There are a few other things to take into consideration if you plan to own and use a gun responsibly, but since that is outside the scope of this thread, you should either PM me or start a new thread on the subject. Starting a new thread would probably be best.

Permits? Permits are crap. The government of Canada wants people to own pellet guns that generate 500 Feet per second or less which couldn't kill a flea! However, some people like to play with springs and seals and get 1100+ FPS, equivalent to an average .22 cal. Why?... because maybe they have seen episodes where people have tried to steal from them before and the police don't do anything but give criminals rights while they throw victims rights down the
sh!tter.

I know permits suck. That's why I plan on building a Thompson SMG out of cannibalized parts and aquriring a homemade open bolt for to turn a (California legal) M-1a into and M-14. I think it would be wise to have a few guns stashed away that don't have a paper trail in case the government makes a collection attempt someday.

what on EARTH would anyone want a machine gun for? the wretched things are designed to kill lots of people, fast. i really don't think "self protection" comes under that heading - it's definitely assault rather than defence.

Machine guns are almost always used for recreational target shooting here. Personally I think a machine gun would be great for self defense and I don't see any reason to regulate them.

Oh yeah, a license for a machine gun also makes int legal to own scilencers in States that do not specifically ban them and there's a seperate license available for explosives and grenade launchers. So in the US, it is theoretically possible to get licenses making it legal for you to carry a machine gun with a grenade launcher under a trenchcoat. Though personally, I'd prefer a concealed Glock or Baretta 9mm with an 18 round magazine and a selective fire switch.

btw, the US won't have a draft any time in the next few decades

some fool (Charlie Rangel - Democrat [from New York?]) introduced a bill a few months ago for a draft and it got like 3 votes for it and 400 against it. I don't even think the author voted for it lol.

Luckily I live in a country in which it is quite difficult to get a gun.

I think that if you statistically compare the number of killings by a gun in America and in countries in Europe, America will have the doubtfull honour of the most dead people on average.

So, maybe someone can explain to me the sense of giving everybody a gun?

What about e.g. children finding a gun in their house and accidentilly killing themselves or a family-member. Is that worth the little extra safety of self-defense? And does this really give you extra safety if you know that the neighbour next to you also has a gun?
