I am planning to attend a Meet-up in my town. There didn't seem to be any for Aspies, but more slanted towards Social Anxiety and Shyness. While I suffer from neither, I've decided to give it a shot. At worse, I will have wasted an evening (when I could be sitting at home on WP :) ). At best, maybe it will be at least entertaining. It is so hard to leave my cave and socialize! Wish me luck!

Even if it's a disaster, it would be an education. I hope you have a great time.

Well, I just got an e-mail from one of the other members of the meet-up. He started raving about how pretty my real name is, and then proceeded to describe how a woman with this name might look (describing a raving beauty of course). Now, I am feeling like I shouldn't go. What a build up. While I am no raving beauty, I hate it that someone is so focused on looks already. He wrote a full page of fiction about a character he'd given my name to, with "to be continued. See you tomorrow." I didn't want this "Dating" aspect to be there. Doesn't take much to chase me back into my cave, LOL!

Perhaps you should email him back and explain that, although he seems like a very friendly person, you really want the opportunity to just visit at your own pace. It would be a really nice thing if he would let you introduce yourself to the group and slowly meet people there in a way that makes you feel comfortable.
If he is pushy and won't leave you alone as you would like, perhaps there is a group leader you can discuss this with (unless he is the group leader).

Other than that, yeah, I'd say that his behaviour right now seems to be too aggressive for your comfort level.

Do you have contact with anyone else connected with the group? It would be nice if you did, so you could bring this up.
Maybe he's like this with everyone... one of his idiosyncrasies.

Well, I let the group leader know about it. The guy never showed up, and I'm relieved.

If so, how did it go.
What happened at the meeting?

Thanks
