Poll: How long do you sit hitting the refresh button?

I am interested in seeing the results because I sit here for hours hitting refresh.

i don't.

I'd say 30 minutes to an hour, don't give much more time than that normally having to deal with the boys. If the boys were old enough to be fulltime in school, likely would post more and refresh more but got a few more years before both go to school.

I perseverate on this quite a bit...i start to feel bad if noone has replied within 15-30 min or so

I have the email notifications set up, which ping up a message on yahoo whenever I get one, so normally limit myself to coming to the site to check for new threads once every hour (during the times I'm in front of my computer). And I thought I was obsessed!

Nope, hardly at all. It's your perogative if you want to reply. Once I've posted, I've posted. In fact, I feel bad sometimes for not going back to the posts I started and responding to the replies. Thank goodness for Search -> by User -> Threads started by.

Whenever I've posted all I can and I'm still not bored here.

not much i reload weather pages. Refresh is used by IE I use mozilla I reload

I don't start to feel bad really, I just start to wonder what I did that made people not want to reply to me if they haven't within an hour, or so. It takes me a little longer than that to realize that perhaps they have not been on to reply. Then if I was in a specific conversation with someone and see them listed as online I will think that person no longer wishes to discuss it, or just doesn't like me anymore. Then a range of emotions set in. At first I start to feel bad at the thought that the person doesn't like me, then I don't care if the person likes me or not and that's usually when I stop hitting refresh. For a few minutes because then, again, I realize they may not have been able to reply yet, so I start the process all over.

I have email notifications setup too and if I am not hitting refresh here I am hitting Send/Recv.

I leave the forum and go back to it to see whether the number of replies has changed..

That depends on how often you come back to check.

From the results so far it looks like the most obsessive compulsive of us may be the minority.

If I'm online and not answering a specific conversation, it has nothing to do with not liking anyone - it's about time. As in, the more I care about the conversation, the more time I want to think about the reply and post something substantial instead of tossing out a few random words.

Either that or I'm just plain busy.

Yeah, see that's the catch and from what I understand is a great example of some of the co-morbid stuff I have going on. I am fully aware that people are busy, or just aren't online, or are away from the computer, or whatever, but that doesn't ease the turmoil. When I posted that, I was not refering to anyone specific because with me there are no exemptions, no exceptions to the rules that govern my thoughts and emotions. It refers to everyone I interact with and at the same time, no one at all, if that makes sense, which it probably doesn't...

Do you mean that a few hours isn't an option? If so just use the 2 to 4 hour option. I always see 3 when someone says few.
