What were some of your childhood "restricted and stereotyped patterns of interest"? Some of mine were flags, maps, and bugs.

:P Childhood ones? They never stopped! Mind you, I'm only 16, so...

I'm not sure I can remember mine off hand. I think most of them were fandom based - Harry Potter for a while, Pokemon, stuff like that.

stargate SG-1, and more recently, stargate atlantis. i am obsessed with those shows to the point where i know virtually every episode name, what season they're from and what happened in each one. i had others, but none were as big as the stargate obsession.

Dinosaurs was the first real big one for me :) which then led into other natural history stuff like woolly mammoths, and then into interests in ancient civilizations when we studied them in school.

Then, somewhere along the way, video games took over

The movie, "The Secret of Nimh" was one of my first obsessions. Frankly, I don't think the word, "obsession", is strong enough to describe my fixation. I constantly drew pictures of Mrs. Brisby and had the book based on the film I read thinking I'd find out something new, even though I'd already read each page several times. If I missed the movie when it came on HBO, I'd have a screaming fit.

Oh my goodness! Another Stargate fan! :D
Don't you just hate they replaced the Go'auld with the Ori as the god wanna-be, control-the-universe, villain du jur? The least they could do is bring Ba'al back.

i havent started seeing season 9 yet, im in australia and they choose to stuff us around with the times they show it. weve seen all of season 8 and have about 4 episodes to go in atlantis. the network did buy the rights for season 9 though, so im hoping they'll show it after they finish screening atlantis.

oh, and about ba'al, apparantly he is going to make an appearance or two in season 9. :D

Another cats fanatic!

Aside from cats, also vampires, and read-your-own-adventure books. ((When the two overlapped it was heaven.)) I also liked to visualize ways to interior decorate. Not just for me, but for any fictional characters in books I read (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory comes to mind- I really fixed up that shack in my mind!)

Did you know that NIMH is also the "National Institute for Mental Health" and oversees all mental health related research activity in the U.S., including animal research" Kind of gives the movie a rather tounge in cheek quality dosn't it.
