Because I do.

People always thought that a person uses their hands to underline concepts that are weaker and less thought-through, but recently, there was a study that disagreed with this. It showed that people use their hands when they speak about things that are very strong in their minds, either emotionally or theoretically strong. How much one uses the hands has also something to do with what language they speak, the better they know it, the more they use their hands.

And women are said to move their hands a lot more than men.

Most movement with my hands is usually down at my sides tugging on my shirt or wringing them together both out of habit and nervousness.

I move my hands alot, yes.. Either waving them, twirl them or my fingers, pinching my lips, rub my face, or tear papers into small pieces or such. I do show movements and acceleration with my hands too when I speak..that sometimes make me hit my glasses so they fly all over the place

Hmmm.. someone told me it was an Italian thing???! !! I had a hard time beleiving that! WHere to ppl get these stupid things??

Anyways yes, i use my hands when I talk, if you notice, real good public speakers always use their hands to convey emotion, power and to catch the attention of the audience.

Yes, already did a thread on gesturing while talking.
I do it because I have no idea what to do with my hands when talking and it feels odd just having arms hanging down by sides.

I move my hands sub-contiously when I speak about me interest sometimes and don't notice until I hit myself in the face (literally)

Yes, I move my hands when talking-not constantly but from time to time throughout conversation, to convey non-verbal concepts & emphasize action, emotion and sensation.

When nervous/upset, I do sort of fidget-such as picking at fingernails or massaging, holding & pressing my hands together-trying to get tension/stress/adrenaline out of my system.

I'm female (and dx'd AS)-boyfriend gestures much less than I do (and he's NT).

I am of German and Italian heritage, so I tend to gesture a lot.

An Italian who cannot move his/her hands is mute. Gesticulation is actually a part of the Italian Language.

I do gesticulate and I find that most people of high intelligence do as well. Our orchestra conductor generally uses minor gesticulation when speaking and it gives much more meaning to what is being said.
