I'm glad I was prescribed an antidepressant or I might be dead or worse... so I'm definitely glad I got that treatment! Also, my shrink really tries to get to know me, he doesn't like labeling people, treats everyone as an individual, and doesn't make assumptions.

The only reason why I might be glad I got that Aspie diagnosis is because I might not be on this site if I hadn't. :D

Well the paxil worked for a couple of years it was a blessing to have no fear or panic, but the constant hunger and weight gain was not great!

@Ana
"Dead or worse"? What could be worse?

@topic
I'm glad the doctor's figured out after only a year or so that I was short-sighted. I got glasses - the constant head aches were gone. That and the recommendation of "do more sport" against my pidgeon chest (for which I'm now too old to be treated properly and have to live with) damaged my view of doctors quite a lot, so I never got any other treatment so far.

On the other hand I will visit one soon to get a proper diagnosis. Hopefully I'll meet the first competent person in the field.

I treat myself and refuse to put my destiny and fate into the hands of doctors WHO DONT KNOW SH*T.

Got anti-depressants - thanks pharmaceutical company!~
Self-Medicate with weed and wine
Aromatherapy - definately - self taught experientially
Herbs - make tinctures
Do meridian energy work - via Donna Eden's Book Energy Medicine
MUSIC - capital M
Nature - capital N
Reset heart rhythms via uncondtional love with animal friends.

THAT's it. I eat as healthy as I can muster. Take the odd supplement - steer absolutely clear from all toxins - on all levels.

I guess I'd have to say several different antidepressants and Klonopin, a benzo, to use PRN. I haven't used Klonopin in over 4 years but it was a lifesaver when I needed it.

The two things that usually cause "Pigeon Chest" are Rickets and Marfan's syndrome. How old are you?

Well, there haven't been any medication treatments I've been happy about, at leas tnot for longer than 2-3 weeks. I am on risperdal, but it only worked for 2-3 weeks then stopped working yet my doctor still prescribes it (note to self: be assertive next time I see doctor to say that I want to be taken off).

As fo rnon-meidcation treatments, my old psych nurse was good (she was my autism treatment provider).

Question:

Am I the only person on this board who trusts doctors? I've seen countless posts in the past where people didn't like or trust members of the psychiatric profession and now we have multiple instances of people self-medicating. Weird.

When I was a little kid, I wondered if clowns were another species, but I eventually realized that they were just like everyone else. The same goes for doctors, they're no more or less trustworthy than anyone else. But many do not know very much about AS, and good intentions can't make up for lack of accurate information.

Even if you read everything there is about AS, there isn't much to learn. No drug treats it, only the things which sometimes come along with it, like depression or OCD. And very few studies have been done on aspies, the drugs they're prescribing us have only been tested 0-2 times on people with Asperger's (you read that right, there has never been any drug tested on aspies 3 times). So even very knowledgeable doctors are just guessing.

Theres a good selection of scientific papers on the subject of drug therepy for ASD on www.mugsy.org, reviewed by Mr M. Conner. I came to conclusion that drugs are to shut US up so NT's can have a quiet life.

Dilantin-it keeps me from having seizures.

Zoloft-Better mood

Non-medication treatments:

Reading glasses. Important since I read and use the computer a lot.

Pets-I cannot underestimate the importance of "four-footed" therapists. They add so much to my life.

Electrolysis...

30 minutes, about once a week, when a pleasant and intelligent woman fills me in on all the more significant local events and issues while answering any of my basic "local and social" skills questions...

That she also removes unwanted facial hair is simply a bonus...

I would recommend this to ANYONE.
