Mitochondrial disease...
I know that many of us do not believe autism is a disease...I know I don't in the sense that I am thrilled with the way I am, as well as my child...however, there is something to be said about the lies of the CDC and medications/vaccines, etc...and the impact on our children. If you recall, the CDC claims that basically they have no proof either way, so ok, they'll pay the parents...They also claim that in all their research they have never found a link...I wonder how many ensured they didn't have children in their tests with "mitochondrial" disease??? That would definitely mean that the vaccines do not cause this, or any other medications...however, it would also mean that they've known all along (as someone reported years ago) and skewed the results, etc. for their convenience...
Anyway, you hear many parents talking about different dietary supplements, etc. and how some have done wonders for their children and others have said it does nothing...interesting, but it seems to say in this article that many treatments help, reduce symptoms or delay (same or very similar treatments as parents with children with autism advocate)...but not for everyone...maybe it has to do with how much damage has already been done? I don't know. I know I don't trust the government one bit.
And again, please know that I do believe that my son is just like me...but the degree of his "disabilities" was increased by something else...not the genes...

I think some may be due to environment. As we grow older we are exposed to more, some good, some not so good. I'm not talking chemicals, I'm talking good ol other humans that don't have a clue about us and that...goes for some parents as well. Add in co-morbids, none of a like anyway. It may be that what something like diet is fixing isn't related to AS anyway, but could be a common that some of us share, but has an affect on what is perceived as an aspie trait. It is less noticeable perhaps because the co-morbid was lessened, now that one I can attest to. There is no reason the opposite doesn't occur as well. Look at the odds, the number is growing and it's because it is just getting to be more of a known, not some damn hypothetical contamination of spook of the moment drug, as far as we can tell. What you went through your child will not, it will be different in some form or fashion. Some times I think we don't need to look any further then what's around us.
Some thoughts anyway. So many variables, so many unknowns yet.

if autism were mitochondrially related.... it'd so be way easier to predict in genealogies.

Mitochondrias are inherited from the mother, not the father. My dad is the one with autistic tendencies in the family. Apparently his dad too (he left him when he was little so I can't be sure). So, it isn't mitochondrially related, at least for some cases.
Because else, where did I inherited my AS?
Also, my girlfriend has an identical twin sister. My gf is an aspie too... her sister is a neurotypical. But both have the same mitochondrias!

Most people do inherit autism from the father's side from what I've heard, although in my family it goes down the mother's mother's side and then the father's father's side both.
