Is there anyone who know any NTs that have aspie traits? I do.

My family.

I just discovered my mother doesn't like fluorescent lights. She can see them flicker and they give her a headache in stores sometimes. When she and my Dad first got a house in Portland, they had one in the kitchen and it bothered her eyes so she had it taken out. I think she is not good with small talk either because she said to me on the phone one day she isn't good at it either and lot of people aren't. She talks excessivly and she gets sensitive to loud noise like she will say the TV is blarring even though it's really not and I have better hearing than her. I can remember her saying when I was 15 she can't read body language well. My dad also said last year she is literal too. She has taken my sarcasm literal and my jokes. Other times she knows I am joking. But she is in denail of her traits because she seems to find excuses for them like "I was tired" "I was in a very bad mood so I didn't know you were joking." "With you it's hard to know when you aren't serious" "Lot of people have problems with small talk" etc. I can do the same with my AS. "Oh the reason why I didn't have friends in high school because they were all boring and they didn't have anything in common with me." "I chosed to not have friends because they were all boring and I didn't want to be taken advantage of so I was protecting myself by not having any friends." "No one wanted to hang out with me." etc.

My dad has a loud voice and he is impulsive. He also paces and he is clumsy, he bumps into things like into people, and sometimes into walls and curses about it. But he is ADHD too and symptoms over lap with AS.

My brother Ben has sensitive smell. He always complained about smells when he was little and the rest of us would say we don't smell it and he still complain about whatever he was smelling. He hated being touched, he was so stubborn and lot of things had to be done a certain way when he was 3 so my grandmother always had all the plates out and the bowls of different sizes along with the cups and silverware so she wouldn't have to put everything back and start over. Punishments my mother gove him for when he hit his brother to get a toy, none of them worked so she gave my brother Mike permission to hit him back whenever he hits him. He was also a picky eater because he was sensitive to taste.

I think that is all. I seem to find most of the traits in my mother but very few in my brother and my Dad. Least that tells me it is no coincidence how I turned out. I got it from my family but I didn't get all of the traits. I am not sensitive to fluorescent lights. If my mother has sensitive hearing to the TV and to loud music and some other loud noises, then why can't she hear the high pitch sound from it nor the mosquito sounds or the lights, etc. :?

Funny how NTs can have the same problems as us and not be on the spectrum. I suppose thats why my mother understood me and have always tried and worked with me. Same as my dad.

It's known that family members of those with autism -- especially austistic disorder, experience similar symptoms. They usually aren't severe enough to affect the person's life like the individual who is diagnosed.

And I've felt discriminated because I didn't think it was fair I was the one whom got diagnosed and no one else in my family didn't. Then when I found out the reason why I needed a diagnoses was so my parents could get power over my school by stopping the staff from putting me in another school in a class with violent kids. Without a diagnoses, they would do that to me andmy parents wouldn't be able to stop them. Then I felt better. The diagnoses was to keep me in out of the classroom with violent kids. It was to save me. I think I barely had enough to be considered on the spectrum. Enough to be effected in my lifetime.

Agreed. Diagnosis is either a yes or a no, while autism is a continuum, which continues well into the "technically NT" range. Extended families with tendencies like that are quite common.

My father has several AS/HFA traits. He talks very monotone, doesn't give eye contact, seems unaware of others feelings (last time I saw him he hurt my feelings and he didn't even seem to know), doesn't engage in small talk, likes routeen.
My cousin has some AS traits. Doesn't give eye contact and likes routeen, although he has more ADHD traits such as excessive hyperactivity, easily distractable, is impulsive and extreme mood swings from calm to anger within a moment of seconds.
I have another cousin who just turned 5 and she is showing lots of AS traits and I think that she is gifted. When she was three years old, she went to visit the kindergarden that she was going to attend and said "Look at the mess, it is absurd," :L

I don't believe that there's anybody out there that DOESN'T have an autistic trait of some kind.

My partner has a million little quirks, so just for the hell of it, we did the aspie self test and though I was surprised at his overall score, he scored extremely low on the test!!

I am very Aspie-ish, but not enough for a diagnosis (I don't think). Since discovering AS, I haven't really considered myself an NT, although I know technically - taking the definition of an NT as being someone not on the autism spectrum - I am one. But let's face it, there's is nothing "typical" about NTs, because everyone is different and like Lola1 said, maybe everyone has some autistic trait or another.

I'm glad your family related to you, OP, and it makes me really consider the idea that AS is a series of traits you inherit, a genetic thing...

My own testing scores place me in between NT and AS, but many of the big characteristics are there. I have unusual interests, am a strong introvert and am very smell sensitive.

Your mom sounds aspie to me. It's interesting she can still see the flourescent lights flicker. I can't remember when the lights stopped flickering for me.
