What are intentions?

Moreover, what does 'the intentions of the character' mean?

I thought I would ask since it is impossible to determine whether you have difficulties with something if you don't know what it is. I've tried looking up the dictionary but it wasn't very helpful.

If you are/were good at English in school, does this mean you don't have any difficulty with interpreting intentions?

It's all so confusing! :?

If someone could perhaps offer any sort of clarification, it would be very much appreciated.

Thank you.

"intention of a character" is simply what they meant to do, rather than what is actually done. Such as, it's my intention to make this clear for you, but it may not turn out that way. I'm trying to be helpful and kind, understand? Whether or not it's pervieved by others that way is irrelevant.

I sort of understand...how does it relate to real life?

It relates to real life in that it helps you to understand others. Sometimes people mean to do good, even if their intentions go astray. Every action a person makes is driven by an intention. Like going to the kitchen, your intention is to get food to eat. By talking to a neighbor your intention is to be friendly. Interpreting them helps you understand why people do things, and helps interactions.
