They knew I was DX'ed with HFA when I was 4-5 and in kindergarden. IEP placed me in special ed but always got a few classes where I mixed with other normal kids. I was to be fully mainstreamed in 5th grade and my IEP allowed me 1 full week in a normal class in 4th grade as a trail to see how I would do. I was to receive help from spec ed after I was mainstremed the 1st year (5th grade) for any assighments I had a hard time with. Until 7th grade I was still under the control of a spec ed dept and they included in my IEP that I use a planner/notebook/datebook to orgaize all projects/HW/reading/assignments and also take notes.
When I entered middle school I no longer had an IEP, and had assumed they took my HFA off my school records so it would not hold me back, it appeared my teachers afterthat did not know about my DX because they treated me like any other kid, and I know this cause whenever I got into trouble I go no more or less breaks then anybody else.

DX'ed with HFA as a child. However this was in 1987 and I am certain had I been DX'ed a few years later I would have been DX'ed with AS instead.
