New Scientist

"A DEVICE that can pick up on people's emotions is being developed to help people with autism relate to those around them. It will alert its autistic user if the person they are talking to starts showing signs of getting bored or annoyed."

Maybe not the most recent news, but it would be a useful tool in helping those suffering from Autism or Asperger's Syndrome develop vital communication skills, especially since nobody has the heart to tell you if you're boring them. Then again, maybe in some opinions, the term "ignorance is bliss" can be applied, depending on your outlook. Either way, i'd imagine it would carry a pretty hefty price tag.

I would like a device that alerts to insincerity, and annoyance....sarcasm.....etc....why just boredom?...i guess that is all the technology is capable of...

I shall have mine surgically implanted, like a prosthetic. Plus, I expect further capabilities. Is it a scientific calculator? Quantum meter? Lock de-icer? Swiss Army knife? GPS? Taser? Can it channel pippete (I've always wanted a channel pipette)? This would be handy. Can it be set on 'stun?'

Maybe I should lower my standards. But, being mindblind I would like a guide. Or a rabid guide dog with a bad temperament ....."Bruno, sic!" Or maybe just a guide tarantula. I am so alone in this world and lack the requisite mind reading skills.
