....Is a movie i have heard about but never seen yet. I wondered if there was any similarity or connection with AS as Jim Carreys character was described by Kate Winslet as wanting to be "swallowed up when in social situations".

Its probably to much of a generalisation but i did wonder.

Carrey's character is a complete loner. He's supposed to have a couple of friends, but that part of his character didn't feel believeable to me. He spends most of his time drawing or writing in notebooks when he's not swallowed by the rutine of his nondescript job. He never knows what to say, because his life "isn't that interesting". He's also awkward, clumsy, anxious and sometimes childlike.

I identified not only with him but also with the relationship he experiences again with his exgirlfriend. Winslet's character was similar to my ex, except mine wasn't creative. I found too many similarities between their interactions and our own, and I end up crying like an idiot for half an hour every time I watch it.

It's one of the best movies I've ever seen, but I don't recommend to see it if you've got heartache.

I couldn't get through this movie. For some reason, I found it really distressing, the part when those people were in his place, helping themselves to stuff out of the fridge, being disrespectful about his possessions, etc. While he was asleep. I felt like my own personal space was being invaded.

It is a great story and proves Cary can act and not merely make funny faces.

I really loved this film, like some of the other posters, it conjured up some strong emotions. I didn't think of his character as being Aspie, but rather a very lonely type of person going through alot in life.

For some reason, I didn't "get" that film. It's mediocre, but nothing special. I wonder why many people think it's so good.

I thought it was a really good film, but I couldn't connect with it emotionally. I think part of that may be that I hate Jim Carrey, and I couldn't relate to him or Kate Winslet-they seemed REALLY miscast (or at least he did).

At the same time it was kind of distressing because I'm in the situation where it doesn't matter what happens, I'm still connected to someone-whether I want it or not :(

Old topic but I saw the movie again it last night.

Seemed better than the one other time I saw it in a theater.

Not sad so much but very telling about...

lots of things.

I always enjoyed this movie and could perhaps relate to both of the characters at one point or another, I actually liked it a bit more the first time because I didn't see the beginning leaving me to feel like they could have left or altered the beginning a bit to leave more mystery.
I also enjoy a lot of the movies Jim Carrey was in, not all of them but quite a few.
