I have been noticing stuff about myself for a while now and I feel that I need to have some answers.... what causes us to be stressed about 80% percent of the time? I mean I feel happy yet I always feel tension and anxiety as if I am afraid to move....everything has to be planned out....I know this may sound like a weird analogy but I always feel as I like to call it ''Mentally Obese'' what I mean by that is that it is harder for me to get around day to day I have to work harder to mentally deal with social situations large crowds etc...the only time I feel somewhat ok is if I know the people I go out with....I feel so depressed alot of times because I see everybody having so much fun especially at my age (21) and here I am feeling as if I am going to have a anxiety and or panic attack...... everybody always tells me to calm down and relax but I guess for me it is easier said than done....at night to relax I get online and or watch a dvd play with my dog etc.....also family problems along with my female best friend and or ''girlfriend'' is starting to really hit me hard...... the thing that makes me laugh about it all is people would think the way I want to relax at night that I have some sort of stressful job or something lol and yet my life is pretty simple I guess going by NT standards.... I guess Aspergers is almost like a 24/7 job in a NT world..... :?:

I don't really know the answer - and perhaps the answer is different for everyone - there are different causes for AS (perhaps).
I believe the anxiety thing - relates to a difference in the structure of the brain - this difference in structure impacts on biochemical actions within the brain. Here is some information on amygdala http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amygdala ---
http://pn.psychiatryonline.org/cgi/content/full/40/9/37

I take a benzodiazapine for anxiety. The effect of this little pill is amazing, and because it is so effective - this tells me my anxiety is related to brain structures and processors.
I found also - omega 3 oils to be helpful. I take venlafaxine - this helps my mood - also helping reduce anxiety.
I hope this helps a little.

You're right. It's a 24/7 job but my son has steps outside of his anxious temperament and looks at it like a seperate needy part of him that needs his logical side to find ways to quiet that side of himself. It's constant but he gets mentally stronger everyday. He reminds me of that one episode in Star Trek where Mr. Spock got too emotional and kept saying "I AM in control of my emotions."

I, on the other hand, have had anxiety rule my life and make me miss out on a lot. I've been a help to my son because I gave him feedback and ways to better assess what happens to him. My son isn't depressed. He's happy about his progress.

I don't agree that dealing with AS is a 24/7 problem.

Dealing with AS is like sailing a boat. Some of the time it's easy and you can navigate the boat using a single finger, other times you need to give the wheel a good hearty tug. On the odd day or two it's all hands on deck, lash the wheel and lifeboats at the ready.

lol naw you didn't im actually surprised somebody else thought of that analogy as well.... I just don't get why life has to be so hard for us.... it confuses me cause by nature I am pretty easy going but I always feel under so much stress and just want to be alone at night.....

same here, night sometimes feel like a temporal truce, the bombs have stopped falling, and you have time to relax and have a smoke.

Most people feel uncomfortable when they are on unfamiliar ground, and will practice and step things through in mind in preparation if they do not feel like they know what they are doing.

I think the difference is not feeling as we do, so much as the degree of novelty needed to trigger it (much less), and the amount of material (experience/information) needed to generalise in a way that facilitates the perception of novel but similar (to previous) situations as being familiar rather than alien (much more), compared to NTs.

I agree with this...

It varies each day. It's not always easy to handle, or difficult to tolerate.

I think my problems vary according to the amount stress I'm under.
