Sometimes when I am feeling depressed I wonder how many more humiliations the future holds in store for me. Do you also fantasize about these things?

I wouldn't say I fantasize about it. It's more like I like worry myself to death about it to the point where I dread doing anything that could possibly lead to my humiliation.

I figure life's too short to worry about what you can't change.

No, but I know that there are many things I need to do and there is a limited window of time for me to accomplish them all. I am playing catchup in a lot of areas. I believe I have a long time to live, but only a short time to get things together. At 43 (next month), I have done a lot of things, but need to learn skills, especially driving, that can help me in the future. I plan to do it in 2008.

i could sit here worrying about two humiliations i suffered today, but I'd rather think about the good time I had last night and think about the good things I'm going to make happen next week. Glass half full or half empty? The choice is yours...

I think one of the big reasons I can never, ever relax, is that at some point in the near future it is always highly probable that I'm going to do something wrong and someone is going to be angry with me about it.

Everytime I think I can't take any more, and I'm on the brink of no return - I bounce back. Someone once called me buouyant. I get kicked and humiliated but nothing will ever keep me down.

Glass is always half empty, that way the next one isn't far away! If the glass is half full, then you've only just started, and have some way to go. If it is half empty, then you're nearly done with that one and you get to start on the next one. Think ahead, with a well laid out plan, and keep on ploughing through. Sideways optimism.

I don't think I'll go through that many... I believe I'm good at preventing them from happening.

Mw99 and abitawkward, you are shaping your own reality.
You're telling yourself that you will be humiliated over and over and over again, so apparently you want to be humiliated, and therefore you will draw humiliation upon yourself.

So stop it!

It's only in your mind!
You can only be humiliated if you accept it.
If you don't care what people think, then humiliation won't happen to you.

I don't care.

Hmmm, you're not having a very good time of it Mw99, are you?

I'd tell you that life isn't so bad and you need to perk up and all that crap, but I've been depressed, actually in a dangerous way, before.

I went through almost 30 years of straight pain and heartache. But right now, I'm good. I can't say that you'll hit that spot soon, or not so soon, but I urge you to keep working towards it. It does take work - and it never feels like the work is, well, working. But if you can figure out enough about yourself, you start to see the whole game differently.

I've felt... good, for about three years (a huge deal when everything before that was Hell). And I don't see myself back-sliding anytime soon.

Now if I could just stop wanting money to buy cool toys to play with, I'd be enlightened!

Well, maybe it's a bit more than that.

No. That's kind of a depressing way to think.
