When I was like 2 or 3, according to my dad, I loved ventilator shafts.

When I was a little older, I loved fire escapes and doors, when I was a little older it was toilets and bathrooms, and now it's airport walk-thru metal detectors and AUTOPSY TABLES! I don't know why!

Old, abandoned buildings and places, and generally anything behind the scenes. Which explains my infiltration hobby. I've lifted several of the ceiling tiles out of the hung roof in my office at work, so I can see the cables and ducts and pipes up in the interstitial space up there. Though this arrangement leading to potential easy access for headcrabs and facehuggers is a concern. And I do worry about it. 8O Though I also know in case terrorists or zombies storm the building, I'm ready to go all John McClane. I don't over-analyze things, do I? :?

I'm just dying to explore the asylum when you finally have your wedding.

Good fortune,

- Icarus has been the last one to tread many places...

Plumbing pipes. When I was in first grade I drew people with pipe bodies, limbs, etc. My teacher asked Mom if Dad was a plumber. Mom said no and my teacher was a little miffed.

Other stuff included slide rules, tools, pens, tinkertoys, plastic bricks and knives.

Overalls. I love them to death. I only have one pair right now, but I hope to obtain many more in the future.

I always collected locks, keys, and erasers. I really don't know why. I guess I like to feel the shapes of them. I know I like to feel the teeth of keys. I'm NOT exactly still fascinated with these things anymore. But I definitely was when I was a young child.

When I was a small child I loved optics of every sort. I was able to focus a magnifying glass (much to the horror of my mother--we lived in fire-prone California) and could burn bits of wood with it. I was careful and never caused an out of control fire. I also liked to look though colored filters and lenses. Prisms and diffraction grating allowed me to see rainbows of color. My favorite subjects were emission lamps such as neon, sodium, mercury, and argon ones--one original color split up into many (except sodium) distinct pure colors. This evolved into liking full coverage sunglasses (the 1980s were great; 2000s not so great), and various tinted ski goggles. I prefer mirrored of both types. The optics combined with another favorite: rocks. This led naturally to precious opal--rainbow in a rock--my current favorite type of rock; second is colorful petrified wood--subject of some future topic. :-) There are other interests (NT wife calls them obsessions; what's the difference?), that will have to wait for another time.

My drums! After all, that instrument saved my life. Sometimes I find myself gazing at them...I love my drums.

The first word I learned was "HAMMA!" and I had a little red plastic hammer I carried around with me. Then I became intrigued with LEGO gears and moving parts. I built a mechanical moving fish when I was about 10 years old, which waved it's tail, flapped it's fins, and rolled on wheels underneath. All those movements were driven by one motor. A second motor made it's jaw open and shut in a cyclical motion. I've always been fascinated with the controls and movements of wheeled vehicles. Flying vehicles: not so much. Anyway, I'm studying mechanical engineering in college now, and I hope that when I start working professionally, I can rediscover that vivid joy of mechanics I got when I was a young kid.

I love old rotary phones particularly olive green ones. Old keys, typewriters, pens, paper, well basically office supplies. I love office supplies. I always have to go down that isle in the store even thought I don't need anything.

According to my parents, when I was little I would always watch the weather channel for hours on end.
