Fired again - but this time it's okay!
Well, after 5-6 weeks of working at the railroad, I've been let go. This makes 3 jobs lost this year alone, but this time I'm not upset about it.
Why? This time I was only let go because I lacked the physical strength to do the job properly, and I agree with him. While I was a little socially awkward, I wasn't a total outcast this time around! This time, my boss is giving me a GOOD reference and will help me get another job! This time, my boss or peers were not my enemy (near as much at least.. there's always one turd who likes to cause trouble for everyone, not just me.)
The difference? I tried to keep positive wherever possible, but that was nothing compared to FORCING myself to do what THEY appreciate - social gathering! If I did what I wanted, I'd retreat to my hotel room every night and not see anyone until the next workday, but this time around I pushed myself beyond my comfort zone and went out to dinner with them once in a while (if I did it even more, it would have an even greater positive effect) and watched the occasional hockey game with them (ugh! bleah!!) AND smile about it!
...but this seems to be a big way NT people non-verbally tell each other they like each other, respect each other, and try to get along. I find it irrelevant and silly, but THEY need it in order to bond, so I decided to give them what they needed. And, by golly, it works!! I'm going to have to step it up even more on my next job!
...Me! Outcast, no more!!
Hmmm... Don't think that saying "congradulations" would be entirely appropriate here... But at least you and your boss left on good turns. That's at least something.
I can relate, though (sort of, at least). I used to work at a gas station during the graveyard shift (good place to see "weird" people), and quit to work at a computer store. Boss at the gas station was a great boss, but the boss at the Computer Store is a bit of an idiot (tried to tell the guy that you can't hook up a serial-port device to a parallel port).

As a veteran of 40 jobs in my adult life... CONGRATULATIONS!
Sorry it didn't work out physically, but that's good you realize your limitations. A person can really hurt themselves by trying to do more than they can physically, or by not protecting themselves.
I have tinnitus from exposure to loud noises on the job without protection, and I have had the same inguinal hernia operation THREE times in my life from overexerting myself on jobs.
Congratulations on some self-discovery concerning your ability to socialize with your work mates.
Just don't push it so much next time that you regret it later. Go far enough to accomplish what you desire, but not so far that you start hating it. Most of my jobs I quite. I was fired from two, and a few ended when the job did. The ones I quit were either because I got bored and wanted to move on, or I got uncomfortable at the work place and left.
I hope you have better success at your next job!
And putting money away is the BEST thing you can do!
I do not know how old you are or where you live, but perhaps you should look in to a mutual fund or 401K plan next job you get.
Start your retirement saving now, and also put a small amount away into a regular savings account for emergencies.
