Grrrrgh! I hate it when I lose stuff! And what makes it worse is that I'm losing things all the time! When I was younger, I probably lost a writing utensil at school every week.

At the moment, I've lost the case to my tape of "Ein deutsches Requiem," by Johannes Brahms. Beautiful piece of music, by the way.

I was wondering, is a propensity for losing stuff an AS trait?

sometimes... it's more a case of losing something, then thinking you remembered where it was, but it's no longer there. happened to me 10 million times.

I'm always losing things too. I don't know if it's related to AS or not, but I do think people with AS can be scatter-brained sometimes. That's definitely me, anyway. :)

I used to, but I am now more watchful of where my stuff is.

I used to lose things when I was younger, but by now I am far more organized :). I guess some of us can be scatter-brained @ times :?.

I lost lots of stuff before... I was so mad and embarrassed!

But I was never as bad as this NT guy on the school trip to Europe in grade 11, who lost his digital camera, his binoculars, and something else, one lost his passport, one lost some other expensive stuff, it was funny, the fact that it could happen! I guess that a splendid drunken moment means more to you on a trip like that than just a few pictures!

Walk into the other room. That's what always helps me. When I lose something, I wander into the other room and suddenly I remember what I was looking for and where the last time I saw it was. Then I wander to that place and end up remembering where I moved it. Then I wander to that place. I remember where I moved it after that.

WTF was I looking for?! !! !?????

This is one of the reasons why I think my girlfriend may have AS. Apart from being the most untidy person I have ever known she's always losing car keys, bills, TV remotes, USB dongles, jewelry, makeup, books, CDs, her pass from work, in fact every time we go out I have to remember where she parked because she never does.

I think everyone is very capable of losing things. I've heard a lot of discussions about losing things from people who were psychologically normal. I wouldn't consider it as a trait for Asperger's Syndrome.

I misplace things all the time, but I'm usually good at finding them. It's all a process where I go through my mind to the last time I had something, and then searching the room/area where I was at that point.

The only time that process gets screwed over is when other people move my stuff. When people do that, I usually get pissed, and because I hate coming off as a hypocrite, I also make a concerted effort to NEVER move other people's stuff. This inverse problem works against me, however, when the BBQ sauce is in the back of the refrigerator and the milk, ketchup, and leftover pork chops are in front of it, though...

I've had to construct some basic rules as to where I leave important things.
I have a small basket on the bookshelves where I always put my car keys and other important stuff.
Paperwork continues to be a challenge, but I've got a filing cabinet, and I'm working on that.

My pockets have invisible holes in them. I lose stuff all the time and it depresses me. I recently got a new digital media player and it simply disappeared from my backpack, despite not letting it get out of sight. I was very depressed. Fortunately I haven't lost my wallet recently (I once dropped it during my first year at university, but haven't lost it since) (did I just jinx it by saying that?)

Sometimes I will "double check" my pockets to make sure I haven't lost anything before I need it

Yes! I hate when people put my stuff away. I have a hard enough time finding it without someone else interfering in the process.

I lose stuff all the time. If I put it where it goes, I will find it. It's when I absent-mindedly set something down because I'm thinking of something else that I lose it. I've lost all of my blue tooth ear pieces at this point. I'm forcing myself to use a wire ear piece to teach myself a lesson. Besides, I know they'll turn up somewhere.

The worst case I ever had of losing something is when I went to Houston to see my husband, and I went downtown to use the law library. I lost my car. I thought it got towed away, but it turns out I just went to the opposite direction of where I had parked. I have what I call "reverse brain syndrome."

I don't know if it is related to AS or ADHD. Me and my 10-year old son, the one who recently was diagnosed AS at his school, we are the ones that always lose everything. Of my other 4 kids, who are all diagnosed ADD or ADHD, the 20-year old loses things. The others just forget things.

The 20-year old said that the reason we ADDers need to be successful and make a lot of money is so that we can replace all the things that we break or lose.
