I seem to have the super power of seeing right to someones insecurity or fault. I think it may be due to not being able to listen while at the same time being oblivious to myself.

When I do tune in I see things factually and how what people are saying is not consistant with what they are actually living.

It might also be a bit of seeing the obvious. Example Some one says "I don't want to sound racist but ...." then they go right into saying something racist.

People comlain about other drivers but yell when I point out to them a few minutes later they are doing a similar thing.

I might be wrong, it might be my ego but I believe I do as I say. McDonalds is bad for you so I NEVER eat it. Driving with the cell phone is bad so I never ever do it. If I am doing something bad, beer is no good when you're on a diet, I'll admit it.

When I was a teen I was caught shoplifting but freaked out the guards because of how calm I was. I tried my luck and they got me fair and square, whats the fuss?

I like your example - they want to be racist, just not have everyone think they are. Classy.

I'm able to do the same thing, for the most part, and practice makes me better. Seriously, I've spent countless hours watching Judge Judy to learn to to out liars. I used to do this with teachers, too, which is why I spent most of my time in the office.

I'm not as good at it when I'm emotionally involved with someone - a motivated cognition, I think it's called. I have a tendency to idealize certain women, so if I feel that swoony, "oh my God she's perfect" feeling I'll try and think of something I don't like about her to bring myself down to reality. I've said it before that it just isn't fair to idealize people.

And of course, my own biggest blind spot is myself, but I'm aware of it and I take no offense if someone can legitimately - and politely! - point out my unintended hypocrisy. I'm too used to worrying about what everyone else thinks of me rather than what I think of me. Workin' on it!

Let's see! I was called racist because I said blacks had brown eyes. Because I didn't think vulcans were black(are there black andorans too!?!?!?). Because I folded my arms!

WOW, I guess EVERYONE is racist!

Same. I generally turn it inward really quick if I have a problem with something. The only thing I can change is myself-and I'm the only one I can figure out, lol, not anything about anyone else, so that is where the focus goes almost immediately.

I'm all for that, but I DO notice the same failings elsewhere, in others. Frankly, if I didn't, I would be WORSE. There are some that think everything they forget as a symptom of alzheimers, and MANY claim to have a perfect memory, etc... LUCKILY, I SEE their failings, and know better. That isn't to insult them, but to make me look at MYSELF more objectively.

The subject came up because of voyager. Prior to that, all vulcans were paler. Lets not really say white, they ARE aliens after all! :? As for andorans, yeah, I forgot about albinos, but albinos, from a color standpoint, are about as different from whites as blacks are.

Well, I would guess that in-series, vulcans wouldn't give a crap about skin color because they're all about logic and all that. In addition, vulcan (and most of the species in Star Trek) all act as if there is a single dominant culture and method of behavior for the entire species. Tuvok, for example, didn't act any differently than any other vulcan would have in his circumstances.

I don't want to be able to see the faults in others.
I can though.

I can see the faults of those I come into contact with on a daily basis, but I don't consider it a super ability. It's more like the faults are so glaringly obvious anyone can see them.

I don't know if it was intended here but, usually, when someone speaks like this(making the obvious sound like a chore), it is to say that it is a stupid or otherwise loathsome thing. A type of sarcasm.

But the obvious is a dangerous thing.

For one most of us here have the social problems that make the obvious sometimes difficult. But more importantlly I wonder when someone does something wrong and it's obvious why doesnt the crowd around me (I assume to be mostly NT) say or do something.

" Hey you're driving in a crowded parking lot during a rainstorm! Now is not a good time to eat a hamburger and call your girlfriend!"

( I swear, in my 'hood people get on thier phones as habitually as they buckle thier seatbelts.Or to be more gross and accurate like a man at a urinal cannot resist the urge to pick his nose.)

We veterans of therapy have been taught to own up to our own behaviors.
Do you realise that NTs value being seen in a perfect light above all else?
People with treated mental difficulties can do what most of the populace can't , say yeah I'm a screw up, now how do I fix it?

We are the diagnosed AS.
How many undiagnosed a$$holes are there out there?

I think its common in aspies for one reason. We get good at finding others peoples faults because that makes us feel less anxious. If I feel bad about myself and my functioning in society, then I feel anxious around people, but that anxiety goes down if i see that other people have defects too. So it becomes a way to cope with stress. We get good at something we practice everyday.

exactly.

It is weird-things that other people do bother me... but only because I don't do them or understand them. That is when it gets turned inward really quick, lol. It isn't a fault in them that they word things wrong, or that they do things differently, it is that I demand more of them in order to understand things fully. So it isn't a fault in them, so to say, it is just in the situation in general.

Granted, I vent about things I don't understand, I gripe about what is expected of me and how I don't get why it's important, lol... when I get going, I can pick apart anything pretty much. But it isn't a fault in others that I do this.

I also tend to call people out on being hypocrites or contradicting themselves, but I always realize right afterwards that I do the same thing, lol, so the focus, again, is turned inward, analyzed, and discussed usually, lol.

OMG my AS bf finds a small pimple but doesn't notice when I've suddenly become 93 pounds. Hair a mess, he has a comment. Hair closer to blonde, no comment. Oh, he loves skinny blondes...

Only what is wrong...
