Anybody else taking this drug for ADHD?

I was just prescribed it. Due to my Social Anxiety issues, they want me to take this as opposed to the older, more well known drugs, since they are supposed to be more likely to adversely affect Social Anxiety and related issues.

I am curious on any thoughts that people may have with their experience.

I took reboxetine and wellbutrin in low to high doses so I have a pretty good idea what Strattera would be like. They all have noradrenaline re-uptake inhibiting action (though wellbutrin also
is a dopamine re-uptake inhibitor).

It will not reduce anxiety and if anything will increase it. The
studies I read about reboxetine that encouraged me to try it suggest it would boost motivation to seek out social contact.
Which would mean its pro-social. But I personally did not observe pro-social effects and do not think noradrenaline re-uptake inhibitors have any pro-social effects.

Strattera may have some other uses that may benefit you.
It likely has some efficacy for treating combined type ADHD.
My brother takes it. It under investigation as a treatment for
marijuana addiction. Not sure if it has reduce his uses of pot but certainly not stopped it.

This was the last med I took. I didn't find much help from it.
I also have used Ritalin and Adderall with no satisfaction.

Back in Alaska, mmmm about 12 yrs ago, I was prescribed some med that made my wife wrinkle her face up and go, "WHY would he prescribe THAT for you?". Can't remember what it was, but I wasn't even wanting to be ADD/HD and I just let the whole thing drop.

Sometimes I wanted to say stuff like the Strattera helped, but how do I know if that was just a good day instead of the med?

I asked my doc about that and he would never give me a good answer.

Basically, I have never gotten discernible results like stories I've read of other folks... "Once he started taking Ritalin he was like a new person!"... and the like.

Never happened to me.

I quit on my own and haven't looked back.

See what it does for you but pay attention closely

I've been on about 80-90 mg of Strattera for more than four years. I haven't had any negative side effects except for occasional dizziness, and I think it's helped me to be more focused and organized on important things like schoolwork.

I am supposed to ramp up to 80 mg in three weeks. I feel funny today and did last night as well after just one 25 mg pill. Could be coincidence though.

Okay...last night, after taking my second 25 mg pill, I ended up with a wicked headache that three Excedrin couldn't touch. I finally fell asleep around 0130, but woke up hard at 0345 with the heebie jeebies. I mean...completely wired. I hope this is just my body adjusting. I am going to try and modify when I take it to right before bed and see if that helps. If not, I'll have to try morning and just deal with any dizziness during the day. Today, I again feel weird. Almost like I'm anxious I suppose.

Your going to have to give each dose at least a week or so. Your body will adjust to most the side effects. Its possible that the very feeling "weird' is indicative the drug is working. The reality is if your brain is shifting from mostly theta-waves to beta-waves you will feel very different and it will take perhaps many weeks or months to fully adjust to that(if ever).

Okay, I tried taking it right before bed and still woke up at 0330 and was unable to get back to sleep. So now on to Plan C. I took the next dose this morning with breakfast. I am dizzy right now, but would rather have that feeling than not be sleeping. I have enough problems with getting proper rest, so I do not need a medication to work against me. I am weary of taking Lunesta until I adjust somewhat to the Strattera.

So much for not taking Lunesta for awhile. Last night I had to 'cause I had class this morning at 0800 and over an hour drive to commute to work where the class was. I woke up pretty cleanly this morning just before my alarm, as always. Seem to be having an okay time of it in class, although the room is freezing and I am going through spells of dizziness. Took Strattera this morning early with my Nexium. I have a cold though, so it is difficult to figure out what is what at the moment. Took DayQuil as well. I took NyQuil Saturday night when the cold got too annoying. Doesn't seem to interact with these medications, so that is good.

Strattera being an NRI takes longer to build up in you body than stimulants. I'm trailing it now because conserta and dexedrine didn't seem to work. Conserta did improve my sleep pattern. Dexedine just made me really drowsy but totally unable to sleep. I'm slowly building up the dose of Strattera am now at 30mg got to 50mg to see if it works. I'm making a conscientious effort to do some work but am still really distractible. Later on they may supplement with Equasym which is the same methylphenidate as Concerta. It may be that I'm just under sensitive to some drugs.

I wouldn't go on me though I'm a really odd case.

Oh dear sorry to here dexedrine did not help. I tried Adrafinil 1200 mg daily for a few weeks and found it useless. I assume it or its more potent analog Modafinil are available in the UK?

A lot people say it is useless on an ADHD forum site. But a few including the site owner says he has had a great response from Modafinil.

Its a noradrenaline agonist so it acts like noradrenaline.

And here I am. I'm due soon for my 40mg of Straterra and can't get my homework done for anything.
