Do you have anything like that? If so what food, candy or drink makes you curl your lip like Elvis or makes you cringe? Do you get physical responses like migraines with certain things?

I can't drink diet anything. No spearmint, peppermints, no trident gum without getting a migraine.

I've always had an aversion to pork chops, ham, breakfast sausage. I hate spam too. Proceed with Monty Python jokes.

sounds like you are intolerant of artificial sweetners and nitrates.

These are very common intolerances.

Artifical sweetners drive me crazy. They taste like poison, they make your body produce more insulin (and therefore inspire you to overeat) they cause cancer, and they are metabolized as poison in certain situations (can turn into wood alcohol). I think the thing that bothers me the most about american popular food culture is "sugar free" is considered "healthy", "Diet Soda" is considered innocuous (or even worse beneficial) and the fact that high fructose corn syrup is evil has been inadvertantly used to demonize sugar, since they are lumped together in people's mind and corn syrup has WAY worse effects on WAY more people.

Aha! So THAT's the reason I can't tolerate diet soda! And wow, certain artificial sweeteners can turn into methanol? Wow.

I also gag when I eat ice cream, but that may be more due to lactose intolerance than anything else.

Apple peels give me a headache.

Its pretty hard to narrow down other than that, I have real sensory problems when it comes to food. I have certain brands and preperation methods I stick too and I rarely stray from that. Food that isnt the right texture will make me lose my appetite.

I also don't eat very much food that comes in a can or a box, they never taste right.

zuchinni (sp?) also comes to mind, but thats probably because my mother tried to force feed it to me for 27 years.

i'm diabetic.. and i have a sweet tooth... so i kinda can't live without artificial sweeteners.. lol. in my chem class last semester, my teacher was talking abt this 1 that got pulled off the shelves because it broke down into methanol.. but the thing is, when you do the math, you'd have to drink like 600 sodas in 1 sitting in order to get enough methanol to kill you.. so... yeah. :?

Typical urban myth. Actual fact blown WAY out of proportion.

I've noticed that sugar sweetened products have been causing severe headaches. I had stopped all sugar for about three weeks, using only honey. I bought some gluten free cookies, sweetened with sugar, and here is a another headache. :x I also bought on a headache by eating candy corn, sweetened with corn syrup.

Cheese, chocolate, yeast, red dye, artificial sweeteners are extremely common migraine inducing things. Sausage does it for some people. Pepperoni for others. MSG is a problem for some people. Caffeine for others. Those are the common ones that I can think of.

Salt opens all those little blood vessels up and get things going again.

I can't stand apple cider & artificially sweetened candies & beverages. My parents say I always "really make a face" when eating sour fruits such as lemons & limes so I gotta eat those when I'm in my house all alone.

As for meats, they're 98% of the reason I'm "such a picky eater". I can't stand meats that aren't very lean, have certain blends of spices/flavorings, or canned meats such as Spam & Treet. If I NEVER ate meats, I wouldn't be half as "picky" as I am. But I gotta eat some meat. I need the protein. So I stick with THE LEANEST cuts of beef, pork, salami, turkey, & chicken. Every once in a while I eat ham, especially on Christmas @ my parents' house. When I try to share with NTs about my taste buds being hypersensitive, they react like it makes no sense to them. One time I lived in a group home with a guy who said he "needed my taste buds" cuz he couldn't taste the difference between meats from Aldi & Kroger. But since I left the group homes for a nice newly renovated 3-family house, I tell everyone I've met who brings up grocery stores & meats: DO NOT buy meat @ Aldi. Their meat isn't lean; it's NASTY & NO GOOD for your health!

I get a terrible aftertaste when eating most kinds of cheeses. I used to love colby cheese when I was 5 but now I can't stand the aftertaste I get when I eat it or any other kind of cheese. When I get pizza I always order it without cheese. Many-a-time the workers @ the pizza restaurants joke with each other that "I must be lactose intolerant". I am NOT lactose intolerant! I just can't stand the aftertaste I get when eating cheese! I DO like grated parmesan on my spaghetti though. That doesn't give me such a strong unpleasant aftertaste.

Sometimes when eating the most sour of all the sour candies I "really make a face" and my tongue has a burning sensation on it for hours after I eat it. I've stopped eating candy for the most part. I'm concerned about developing diabetes with the way my meds can raise my blood sugar levels (BTW I'm on Symbyax 6/25 mg).

As for pop. I can't stand Dr. Pepper or diet any kind. I gotta have regular but CAFFEINE FREE Coca-Cola or Sprite as a caffeine buzz will most times give me a headache, but the headache doesn't come from the taste of course.

I apologize if my post was too long; I just had a lot to share on this topic :).

Just the smell of iced tea makes me nauseous. I poured some down the sink once and the putrid fumes had me gagging.

Processed sugar is something I have issues with (migraines, among other things) so It's almost entirely cut from my diet. Truth be told this is probably a good thing anyways, since people need tons of sugar like a hole in the head.

I'm ultra-sensitive to certain smells like cheese, cooking pork, and pretty much all "comfort foods". It's just too strong. Pork though, I won't eat anyways- but that is the most pungent, offensive smell ever.

Excessive salt makes my hands shake and my body ache.

Citric acid has a nasty reaction to my mouth- I get tiny blisters all over my tongue. So I avoid lemon, grapefruit, oranges, etc., like the plague.

Spam is outright disgusting.

So is chocolate. I hate it!

Oh, and on top of that soy products cause me to vomit. I simply cannot digest it. This was a great topic of discussion one time when a well-wishing vegan acquaintance tried to slip me some kind of artificial hamburger (unbeknown to me) and I yakked for a good couple hours until it was out of my system. The sad part was, the burger didn't taste all that bad.

I get headaches easily based on what I eat. If I don't eat enough sugar, if I eat too much sugar...And as much as I like soda, I can't drink it without getting a headache. (I think it's the caffeine, because I do better with root beer.)

Also, when I was young my sister used to eat cheese puffs, which smelled VERY strong and made me so sick - not only eating them, but smelling them on long road trips, etc - that to this day I feel ill thinking about them. Gross me out, LOL.

I absolutely can not eat pork chops, processed meats (hot dogs, bologna, etc) or I will get a migrane.

Midnight Milky Way bars give me an extremely bad headache.

Three days ago I woke from my sleep with the worst headache ever. Since I don't usually get headaches I was concerned. I went over everything I had to eat or drink before going to sleep. The milky way bar was on my list and I kind of suspected it. Last night I remembered that I had another milky way stashed away. I ate it and within twenty minutes I felt that same type of headache coming back and took a couple of motrin to keep it at bay. No more milky way bars for me.
