I complained about a bogus cure for autism.
It's a bit like the dodgey sunrise programme in america it sucks more than that does.

I hate bogus cures for autism.....or any cure for autism. I don't understand the rest of your post though.

I don't hate them. I just don't like them. I find that they are actually effective for that segment of society that believes themselves to have autism but really don't. Then when they take the bogus cure, that person is cured!

Don't fully discount some of those herbal remedies. While I doubt that anything can cure autism, some of these herbal remedies might be able to moderate some negative symptoms. Maybe I'm just too much of a tree-hugging hippie, though.

The attempt to effect a 'cure' seems to be aimed not so much at adults or older young people/late teens, so much as anxious parents who want to 'cure' their children.

The segment of the population who erroneously diagnose themselves with autism probably would not be looking for a cure since they would want to hold onto their 'condition' as a kind of 'badge of honour', or something to set themselves apart from the rest of the population.

What irritates me about it all is people are so quick to fall for any little bit of nonsense the media and some drs. give them without thorough research and are willing to dump tons of money over stuff that doesn't work or only works for some. Add on the fact that I despise the thought of a cure for Aspergers/Autism as my oldest son and I don't need a cure, we need understanding and acceptance. It's pretty pathetic when people always get so quick to try to cure something without ever understanding it. We're not diseased, we're not dying, we are who we are, that's what matters.

Some people want cured though it does seem unlikely to me. If some things help cut down harmful behaviours then i think its a good thing. That can go along with acceptance that an autistic person isnt and likely will never be like a "normal" person.

I was at Petsmart wearing my 'Aspie Stim Team' shirt and someone told me about a chiropractor who could 'cure' autism by spinal manipulation . . . that scares me . . .

autism can be a curse and a blessing. some people say they don't want to be cured, some people do. the "symtopms" vary. i've wanted to kill myself on many an occasion because of my autism, but i can see that it makes some people's lives richer. it depends on the type of autism you have, the different abilities and disabilities you have, because everyone is different.
