I haven't posted on here in a long time. I kind of regret my name being in my username. Anyway, does anyone not feel like a nerd or dork, or geek, or whatever? I don't, but I'm afraid of being lumped in with them.

There's a group of kids who stay after school in the cafeteria and play Yu-Gi-Oh! I don't identify with them at all. I know that Aspergers is said to be a "geek syndrome", but I don't feel like one, deep down. My biggest hobby is probably horseback riding. I admit, I suppose that I do dress somewhat "dorkish" to others. But I'm taking small steps to fix that. But like I said, I don't identify with that. Does anyone here feel like I do?

I sort of do now, but I didn't at all when I was young. Hung out with a rather rough crowd, definately did not fit that profile although I did have an intensely intellectual side.

What do you mean exactly? That you do feel like a nerd now, or that you didn't when you were younger?

I'm not one of the "nerds" at my school. There's a club that sits around and plays D&D, board games, and LARPs. But, I have intense scientific interests and some "nerdy" interests such as Pokemon and Spongebob. I love reading and I make good grades. So, in that sense, I'm very nerdy. There's nothing wrong with not being a nerd, and there's also nothing wrong with not wanting to be lumped in with them :)

I've never really identified as any of those either, I think its a rather funny stereotype...but not very accurate I mean as they say if you've met one person with AS you've met one person with AS. As my thing says I am a metalhead...and that's not very simular to a nerd, though there could be nerd metalheads just so long as they are into metal music.

When I was growing up the terms 'dork' and 'nerd' were nonexistent. But, yeah, I do identify with them. I don't or never did hang with them, but I was one nevertheless.

No, I understand. In high school I had an aversion to the nerdy kids who spent their lunchtime drawing anime. At my high school there were a group of boys in the library each AM playing yugioh. I thought it was weird while I maintained levels of nerdiness.

Yeah, there's something odd to me about 15 and 16 year olds playing something that to me, died out in the 2nd grade. And I didn't play it then either.

I identified as a nerd and fashioned myself after Austin Powers as a way of rebelling against what my mum thought of my true colours in 1998. It was a waste of time. I topped it off with the Punk mask, than I've matured a fair bit in the Fall of 2009.

Nothing wrong with horseback riding. I was a Civil War re-enactor when I was in my high school and college years and was colonel of the 4th Wisconsin Cavalry. We had over 100 people riding for that. I also barrel raced in high school. Horses are really cool.

After watching how outlandish people have acted during the Wisconsin Recalls I have come to the conclusion that there is no such thing as normal.

Despite being in track and martial arts, yes, I have always been a geek and am proud of it. My wife is a geek as well, and looks like Jennifer Love-Hewitt despite being 54.

There is nothing wrong with being a geek. The Air Force made me a major despite being one. Be happy with who you are and strive to contribute to humanity. You'll make your mark.

Longshanks

I never identified with nerds--mostly as a dork. I read comic books. My friends were all nerds and I just wasn't that smart.

Horseback riding would have been awesome for me if I had the money--I used to try to dream about horses. Unfortunately, it's absolutely unfordable for some people. Consider that the Yu-gi-oh people might not have access to horse back riding.

BTW, I never played Yu-gi-yo, nor ever heard of it. I didn't have the money for a lot of computer stuff then either. I don't know what that game is.

I just didn't fit in until the point in which I shaved off all my hair, cut up my clothes, and pronounced that I didn't fit in.

You should consider that we're all individuals with different backgrounds. Don't think that b/c you don't follow a certain trend or fad, or because you have access to other stimuli, that you might not have a similar (or different) "neurological" makeup.

BTW, I'm not diagnosed Aspergers, nor do I even think I should be.

I take lessons, but I don't own a horse.

I never said that I was neurologically different, just that I don't identify with them as a group, but for some reason, there's a stereotype that seems to say that I should.

Nope. Never. Well, when I got glasses (1970) I was briefly ... what was the word? There wasn't nerd or dork then, probably I suppressed it anyway ... but then John Lennon spec in 1972, then I was cool. Been cool since. Which doesn't mean much I know.
