I was just remembering today how when I was a kid, after they decided I didn't have ADD- they decided I had "failure to thrive". I haven't heard the term since.

Thoughts?

From the above, it would seem that "failure to thrive" has more to do with not reaching weight-gain and growth milestones than it does with any neurological condition.

Yeah to SleepyDragon. I have never heard of a child past infancy being said to have "failure to thrive." I am sure it happens, but it seems like it would be very rare.

I'm assuming it was seen as a failure to reach the academic and social milestones that your peers met (without any more information to go on).

Hmmm that's interesting.

Thanks for the link, Sleepy. :)

Anyways, the jist I got from it (in school) they were talking about it as a neurological thing... Guess they didn't know what they were talking about.

Years ago, talking to a tharipist, I used to phrase "failure to thrive." I was very sad about my life and I didn't know what to talk about or how to talk about it and I said, "The phrase 'failure to thrive' comes to mind."

He said, "Failure to thrive occures when there's a lack of physiological or psychological nurturing. If no one else is providing you with the physiological or psychological nurturing that you need, then you'll have to provide it for yourself."
