Since I've recently found out that I have executive dysfunction, and recently found out what it is, I found these simple tests.

I had my mother read out what I must do, and she judged me. It's probably better to have someone else read them out to you so you don't plan ahead of time. I failed the last two of the three. I assume I did well in the first due to drawing it.

Well that was enlightening. I actually did ok, therefore I'm not demented. yay.

Daniel, not to worry. You're way too smart to be an executive anyway (play on words, parodying the test/game given). You're far more suited to being, say, a rocket scientist or brain surgeon! So what if you can't draw a clock. At least we/you know how to relate time to space, energy - relativity. Clocks are arbitrary. I kept skipping ahead with the words beginning with letter __. I don't play word games. But I can write!

Dementia is way overrated.

Can you think of words beginning with the letter F (relating to the efficacy of this exam)?

I didn't get ten words in each category with the FAS test. I got 6 or 7. But that might be because I was administering it to myself.

But on the clock, not only did I draw it too small, but the numbers were cattywompas. Now that's a word. *headdesk*

I posted a thread about executive dysfunction not too long ago. You might like it: http://www.wrongplanet.net/postt48669.html. There were some good links in there.

Funky? :)

With the words, I had 7-3-3 in sequence; I made far too many errors in the numerals/alphabet thingy, and I drew the clock...perfectly. Perhaps I'm suited for drawing clocks. Executive dysfunction seems to be a common thing in those with an autism spectrum disorder, "common" as in not rare.

lastcrazyhorn,

Thanks for the link.

Before my last psycho visit, I didn't know what executive dysfunction was; it seems to be a part of me that's really holding me "back" from doing things I want to do, but I cannot...do.

That's me. A lot of my stuff is all tied into executive dysfunction. Unlike my aspieness, I don't have a formal diagnosis on it, but I suspect after I bring it up with my p-doc the next time around, I might be able to get something formal going. :)

That guy's site that I linked to originally in my other post gives lots of suggestions for dealing with this - like putting up lists on the walls reminding you to do certain things through the day.

*rolls eyes* Like flush the toilet . . . oy. That's one of my problems; I don't like the sound and can't remember to do it anyways. Oy.

I think I could do the clock and the letters one, but I tried the alpha/numerical test and bombed out, gave up at 9 because it was really hard and I did not like doing it....I do think I mostly got it right though, it just took longer and longer for each letter and after number 7 keeping track of the numbers and which letter I'd done last became difficult.

The article was not clear about this, but EFD is not dementia - it occurs in all dementia-causing diseases, as the article states, but it also occurs very frequnetly in non-dementia neurological conditions like ADHD and HFA, including AS. Dementia is a breaking-down of overall cognitive abilties, whereas EFD is specifically an impariment of certain interrelated frontal lobe processes, like planning, organizing, understanding cause-and-effect relationships, and emotional control.

EFD is often not dx'd in people with either ADHD or HFA because symptoms of EFD are usually assumed to be part of the primary dx anyhow. In other words, if you have either condition, chances are you do have EFD to some degree

That is true Aspie Martian. The assessment of if it is considered clinically significant is usually to do with how bad your executive relative to your overall abilities.

I did ED test for my diagnosis. I just got Aricept today (donepezil) it would be good to see if I've improved. Also getting some Huperzine A soon and will try that after.

Um I’ve just taken the pill right now. :D I'll tell you in due course. The doc says you can get the usual side effects like nausea, vomiting muscle cramps, etc. But you might not get them. Note this is new science it has mixed results. It might not work at all. I hope it does. this particular pill is suppose to help the working memory, Hep A is said to help the spacial memory and Memantine as shown to help language function in ASD.

the side are a lot less than antidepressants for example. There are no SDs mentioned so your pipi is safe. It does mention incontinence but bear in mind this treatment is used mostly on Alzheimer's and dementia patients, so they are normally elderly.
