I have returned!

Except for a few new high-rise condos, San Antonio hasn't changed in the 13 years since I was last there.

On Wednesday, my parents and I left Wichita Falls for Houston, so I could see my house for the first time in 3 months. We met my uncle, my cousin, and his girlfriend for dinner.

On Thanksgiving day, my parents, my grandmother, my aunt and uncle, and three cousins left Houston for San Antonio. The drive took about 3 hours, including 2 bathroom breaks. We went to Cracker Barrel for lunch, then we checked in to a very nice hotel in downtown San Antonio. I got a corner room, and it was very nice--it had a plasma TV and a very nice view of the city. That evening, we went to Hard Rock Cafe for dinner.

On Friday, we had breakfast in the hotel, and then did some souvenir shopping, and bought knit caps due to the unseasonably cold weather in San Antonio. Then we went to the Chart House, an upscale, revolving restaurant at the top of the Tower of the Americas. Then we went back to our hotel rooms. We saw part of the Holiday River Parade, an annual tradition in SA. My parents and I got hungry, so we went to eat dinner at a placed called the Original Mexican Restaurant--as I felt that it was obligatory to eat Mexican food in San Antonio.

This morning, we had breakfast in the hotel, then my parents and I checked out of the hotel and made the 7 hour drive back to Wichita Falls. Instead of taking I-35 and Hwy. 287, we took Hwy. 281 to avoid going through Austin, which has the worst traffic of any major city in Texas. The views on 281 were beautiful, especially near a town called Marble Falls (about 60 miles west of Austin). We stopped for lunch in Hamilton, Texas, a small town in the middle of nowhere. Then 3 hours later, we arrived back in Wichita Falls.

Tim

Sounds like you had a good time. I went camping with my husband and our dogs for Thanksgiving. It was wonderful. :D

Sounds like a great trip. I'm glad it went so well.

Cracker Barrel makes great pumpkin streusel and apple streusel pies. They sell whole pies to take home for Thanksgiving, but you have to order it in advance in some areas.

Would have taken longer if we had gone through Austin.

Tim - Welcome to Wrong Planet (again). We missed you!

Um, did you bring us a souvenir? You didn't miss too much. Glad you're home.

WHERE'S MY T-SHIRT! ????

Oh.. welcome back... I suppose...

WOOHOO, San AntoneeeeOH!

I'm sorry to hear about the traffic in Austin. Used to be a really great town. I even drove a cab there for a little while.
Rode my Harley all around it. Drove Ambulance there also.

Marble Falls! Not on my usual list of places to drive through, but I'm glad you enjoyed the drive.

I do love the back-roads in Texas. Reminds me of growing up there and when I was young and single.

How is the snow?

I just spoke with my mom and a sister in El Paso and they have lots of wet snow coming down.
My brother in Eastland said he had snow also!

What the hell's goin' on with you folks over there? Where's MY snow? :(
