Do you like being "treated like you have autism or AS&q
Do you like it when people explain social situations to you as though you don't understand them?
Do you like it when people tell you what to do as if you don't know?
Do you like it when people say you have AS?
Do you like it when people call you disabled?
Do you like it when people say you have a disability?
Do you like it when people give you antidepressants or antipsychotics for "autism", as opposed to "depression" or "psychosis"?
Do you like it when people think or say anything and/oror everything you say or do is because you're autistic or have autism?
Do you like it when people say or think that other disorders (depression, anxiety, dyscalculia, etc) you have are because of autism (whether due to the brain chemistry, the "disease", or being depressed or anxious because you "know you're disabled"), and that autism is the root cause, your be-all and end-all?
Do you like it when people make sure you get bulkhead seats on a plane, whether that's necessary for you or not?
Do you like it when people give you directions to a place over and over again or give you a map because they think you'll never learn it or remember it, whether that's true or whether you don't have that problem at all and learned it the first time?
Do you like it when people tell you to do stuff as though yop don't understand that it's necessary but would blindly follow them if they told you because you're either a pushover or ignorant and simple?
Do you like it when people tell you how to do things as though you would do it if you understood how?
Do you like it when people are careful not to be too loud around you?
Do you like it when people never explain why you ahve to or don't have to do something, because you're too "autistic" to understand and so they just bribe or punish you based on what they think are you only interests or your narrow interests?
Do you like it when people make allowances for you because they think they might get sued if they don't?
Do you like it when people make you eat certain stuff "because it's a good diet for someone with autism"? Do they refuse to let you eat certain stuff, even if it's not supposed to be "bad for people with autism", because it's junk food and they assume autistics are sick and can't tolerate junk food as well as NTs or something? (This actually happened to someone on another autism board.)
Do people always put you in autistic-like jobs when they hear of your "autism"? Do they put you either in something repetitive, something with a constant routine or something involving comoputers or math or memorization?
Any other chickenshit? Share it!
Most of this hasn't happened to me, thank God! I'm treated like an individual by most people who don't know or actually understand as opposed to "knowing".
I don't like it when people explain social situations to me as though I don't understand them.
I don't like it when people tell you what to do as if I don't know.
Nobody has said I have AS, but I would have liked it, since it would have explained everything.
Nobody has called me disabled, b In't have liked it.
Nobody said I have a disability, but I don't like it if people call attention to problems I have.
Nobody gave me anything for "autism", but I didn't like it for "depression".
It is VERY rare that people repeat what I say, but I don't like it.
Nobody said my lack of ability in any area was due to autism.
I'm a frequent flyer, so I sometimes get "FIRST CLASS"!
Of course, I was once bumped to coach because of "weight balancing"! ODD for a 757! But they DID treat me a bit as if I was in first class anyway.
I don't let on if I fail to understand a persons directions fully. I am usually in too much of a hurry. I go farther and ask someone else. I don't like THAT though.
I hate it when people tell me to do stuff as though I don't understand that it's necessary but would blindly follow them if they told me. Sometimes I actually place such stuff as last priority, or fail to do it, out of SPITE!
I HATE it when people tell me how to do something that is simple, etc... Sometimes I actually taught someone that knew it before THEY did!
I like it when people are careful not to be too loud around me! That is RARE though.
I HATE it when people never explain why I have to or don't have to do something.
I'm not recognized as disabled in any way.
I hate it when people limit my options and STILL expect me to eat.
Well, I put MYSELF into computers. People think I did it because of my father. NOPE! I never gave that a thought. It was a natural outgrowth of my interest in electronics.

I don't want to be treated any differently...I want to be treated like a functional human being, not an invalid who is paralyzed from the neck down and can't do anything on their own.
Sure, I may need some things explained to me......or the occassional anti-depressant
I don't want to be treated as "disabled" as such. I also don't want people to say that I have AS if I can't do something...it's just an excuse.

Oh, yeah! And then they say I'm a spoiled brat because I demanded something else, but I didn't demand something else! I just refused what they had!
