I just took the face recognition test, and scored about average. It made me think that I do OK with faces, but I am horrible with people's names. How does everyone else do, I wonder...

I'm pretty good with names. I know the names of all my family members, most people at my summer camp, almost all the kids in my grade at school (as well as a few in other grades), family friends, celebrities, and basically most people even if I've never met them. A lot of people, if I've heard their name once, I'll remember it even if I have no clue what they look like.

I can't really vote with those options. If I'm introduced and hear the person's name, I'm great with names. However, people don't always introduce each other and I'm reticent to ask names. So, I can go a long time without knowing someone's name. Weirdly enough, people have a hard time remembering my name even though it's very simple. People think I'm a "J" name.

I can do faces fine, but names I struggle with. The words 'dude', 'mate', 'buddy', 'chick', etc are the best invented imo, that way you can avoid admitting to people that although you know who they are and recognise them etc, you have absolutely no idea what their names are!!

I am truly awful with names. Doesn't matter if I'm told, I don't remember. When I get new members on my team at work I have to write their name down. Oddly enough, that works. If I don't write it, it takes forever for me to remember. If I do write it, I've got it.

I'm good with names. Then again, one of my interests is etymology, the study of
words and names. I can remember a name like Duncan because I know it means
'brown battle' or in other words a dark-haired warrior. :)

I remember names very well, but if I have not met a person in a while, then I will forget their name.

Pluto, it just occurred to me to add that my father, in his infinite twisted wisdom, named me John. My brother's name is Iain, and I'm sure you get the joke.

Wonderful man, my father...

It takes a lot of reminding before I'll remember someone's name, so mostly I don't call people anything.

LOL. I was thinking earlier of asking you the same.
I play bass. A few other instruments, but bass is my favorite. I play by ear, no training at anything, but I always keyed in on bassists in bands I listened to growing up, so I picked it up and started playing.

And what's the story behind yours?

I had to upload a picture of myself onto Myspace, so I covered my face with a bass and took it.
I've done it with 3 basses now.
Also, I play bass. :D

If I see it in print, I remember it. If I hear the name, not very well. Sometimes a person's name will have to be repeated to me multiple times before I finally remember it.

Once I finally remember it, I never forget it. I can remember every teacher I've had from kintergarden all the way until I graduated college, and a good portion of substitute teachers as well.

Most of the people I meet are people I don't really care about, so I often forget their names.

I've gotten to the point where I just tell people when we meet that I'm going to forget thier name and ask them again later. At least that way they can't say they weren't warned.
