I had a not so great experience at work Friday. I did a post on the horrible, obnoxious Xmas decorating going on in a unit (thankfully not mine) at work. It has since gotten much, much worse. Streamers, lights, tinsel, wrapping paper of all colors and patterns--some of them truly revolting--everywhere!

I had to go over there to show a teammate where someone was. We were there for five minutes. I felt fine when I went in. By the time we left I had a bad headache and was nauseous. This feeling didn't go away for some time.

Now, is it possible that this reaction was tied to my Asperger's? I have been dealing with things like this for a long time, but am only recently, since discovering Asperger's and being diagnosed, understanding why these things happen, and what things affect me what ways. I am trying to figure out if this is Asperger's related, or not.

Anyone...?

It could be. I would say most likely but different things affect people different. It was obviously a sensory overload, and it is entirely possible that would make you physically ill.

So my answer to the information you presented is most likely.

It could, however, be the lunch or breakfast or lack thereoff that you did or didn't have.

And yes, it is possible for the sickness resulting from breakfast/lunch or lack thereoff to occur in that amount of time.

I would say it's possible if the shiny things were moving or appeared to be moving. Lines can create an optical illusion of movement that makes me nauseous. For instance walking by an iron fence (those thin iron rods all in a row) or looking up and down an open Venetian Blinds. So, if the tinsel was flashing in the light and stuff was moving, it's possible that it made you sick. I can't watch certain tv channels, like Fox because of the rhythmic flashing.

Hi and welcome to Wrong Planet.

I personally don't think your reaction was due to Asperger's. I'm not saying it isn't possible, but really, you'd have to lock yourself in a closet throughout the Christmas season to avoid much of the bad taste people demonstrate with Christmas decorations. It's hard to avoid. As long as the display wasn't noisy (bells, chimes, ho-ho-hos - it wouldn't bother me. A lot of work places won't allow lights and other types of decorations that could be a fire hazard.

I like tasteful decorations, non-commercial, not flashy. Poinsettias, Holly, evergeens & pine cones. At home I set up a nativity scene and lights. In the workplace, most workplaces, these days, religious connotations to Christmas are not allowed. Christmas is okay as long as it stimulates the economy, but please, take Christ out of it, thank you. It is not politically correct to set up Christmas displays in public places. Some places allow Christmas trees because it's good for business. We must deny that we have any religious beliefs you know, so as not to offend anyone who doesn't.

I really hate those big blow-up monstrosities that people set up on their front lawns.

There isn't a real Xmas tree in there is there? If so, it might be an allergy.
